This auction is for an original mono pressing LP of A LOVE SUPREME by John Coltrane - IMPULSE A-77, gatefold, released January 1965.  One of the true classics of jazz.  
RECORD: Record is in nice shape - retains high gloss, minimal noise in background (although to be honest, there are not a lot of silent moments in this record - Coltrane and co. fill up the space.)  I'd grade Side 1 as VG+, Side 2 as a nice VG... would be VG+ if not for a few visible marks that are audible on intro/outro. Labels are perfect!
COVER: Cover has some issues, as can be seen in the photos.  There is damage to the upper corner of spine, and bumping at two of the other corners. The lamination is beginning to peel on the back cover at the sleeve opening.  Good news is that the cover is flat and solid, retains very high gloss, is very tight, with no ringwear. The interior of the gatefold is in much better condition. Very, very minor scuffing and a very small (1/4 inch) mark (old food? dried glue?) at the very bottom. RETURNS: I happily take returns - no questions asked - for two weeks after sale as long as the item comes back in the same condition I sent it out in.  
HOW I GRADE RECORDS: 
MINT: Basically as new. Exceedingly rare, except for recently issued records.
EXC: Means mint minus, no notable scratches or wear probably rarely played.  Sleeve should have no more than the most minor defects, such as almost invisible ring wear or other signs of slight handling. 
VG+ : A very nice used copy. There will be obvious signs of wear and the possibility of light surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages, but still very nice. Label may have some ring wear or discoloration, but it should be barely noticeable. The center hole will not have been misshapen by repeated play. LP cover may have slight signs of wear also and may be marred by a cut-out hole, indentation, or very minor marks. In general, if not for a couple things wrong with it, this would be EXC.
VG : Very Good - a used, played copy. There will be obvious signs of wear and likely light to moderate surface noise between tracks or during quiet passages. VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail. When played, a VG record has surface noise, and some scratches may be audible, especially in soft passages and during a song’s intro and ending. But the noise will not overpower the music otherwise. Minor writing, tape or a sticker can detract from the label. VG covers will have many signs of human handling. Ring wear in the middle or along the edges of the cover where the edge of a record would reside, is obvious, though not overwhelming. Some more creases might be visible. Seam splitting will be more obvious; it may appear on all three sides, though it won’t be obvious upon looking. Someone might have written or it or stamped a price tag on it, too.
VG- : Very Good Minus - significant wear and marks and usually quite noticeable surface noise and groove wear, and the label is worn, with significant ring wear, heavy writing, or obvious damage caused by someone trying to remove tape or stickers and failing miserably. A VG– cover has ring wear to the point of distraction, has seam splits obvious on sight and may have even heavier writing, such as, for example, huge radio station letters written across the front to deter theft.
