 From my Personal Collection

You are bidding on a Johnny Ace collectible, a 1956 original first pressing of  Memorial Album by Johnny Ace recorded on the Duke Label LP-71 in High Fidelity. This is the Gold and Purple Label with Purple Print.  This is the original.   A real gem.

The thick album cover  has no discoloration, ring wear,  no writing,  just a 2” side split frayed.   The cover record  entrance  has some curling but no  rips. The bottom split has been reglued and holds well.   The picture of Johnny Ace still  has a glossy  shine.   The original price on the back is in the upper right hand corner. The shiny black, deep groove heavy record has been well protected  and there is no writing on the label.   The record has some light scratches and some scruffs that did not affect a wonderful listening experience.  I played the record just before listing and there were no skips, sticks, loud pops or noisy hisses.  Some very light crackling, but both sides played very nicely on my record player.    A great listening experience.  The songs include:

Side 1, Pledging My Love, Don't You Know, Never Let Me Go, So Lonely, I'm Crazy Baby, My Song. Side 2, Saving My Love For You, The Clock, How can You Be So Mean, Still Love You So, Anymore.

Based on the Goldmine guide, and I am grading very conservatively, the album cover is graded  VG to VG-, the quality of the record a strong VG.    (with sleeve).

GRADING GUIDELINES!

Cover

SS: Still sealed. All new, never played. Can still have a coh or cc (see below)

EX: Practically as new. Completely clean.

VG++: Can include minor bending, slight visible ring wear, minor splits, name written on sleeve. Normal wear and tear, but no damage to the visual beauty of the sleeve.

VG+: Sleeve wear is beginning to detract from cover art. Can include creasing and/or splits, and ringwear.

VG: Sleeve intact, but showing major signs of wear and tear (as mentioned above).

VG-: Major/noticeable wear, but no part of sleeve missing, some parts maybe worn. Can include splitting, ring wear, writing on sleeve, major creasing, staining.

RECORD

(NM or NM-) NM records are shiny with no visible defects such as writing, stickers or needle marks on the labels. The album cover should have no creases, folds, seam splits or any signs of human handling. It also will have no ring wear.

(VG+) or (Excellent) May show some slight signs of wear, including light scuffs or very light scratches that do not affect the listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK. Minor signs of handling are OK. The cover might be marred by a cutout marking, small hole punch, a cut in the spine or a promotional stamp and even a tiny bit of ring wear.

(VG) Have more obvious flaws such as lack of gloss, groove wear, light scratches and needle marks. When played there will be surface noise that will not overpower the music overall. Noise in the passages, between songs is common. The cover may have minor seam splits, writing, tape, stickers, ring wear and scuffs.

(VG-) Is just a compounding of the VG category. Many obvious flaws but if the record is rare, may very well be worthwhile. I usually do not list records lower than the above grades.
