History
This 4-track 7" EP was recorded at the Pennine Sound Studio, Oldham in December 1977 when the band were still known as WARSAW. It was eventually released in the summer of 1978 on the bands' own Enigma label.This was their first official release and before signing to the legendary Factory Record label.

The sleeve, which showed a controversial image of a Hitler Youth drumming boy alongside the 'Joy Division!' name, folds out into a 14" x 14" poster sleeve which was designed by band guitarist Bernard Albrecht (nee Sumner). Apparently the band had to fold the sleeves and add the vinyl 7"s themselves!

Sleeve : Ex

 14"x 14" fold out sleeve designed by Bernard Albrecht-nee Sumner is in beautiful condition with minimal creasing. You can tell by the scans that the condition is fantastic. I have seen many of these over the years claiming to be mint but none have come close to this.

Vinyl : Ex

It has one small surface mark (not a scratch) on side 2 Failures Of The Modern Man but that doesn’t affect playback in anyway,it is in overall beautiful condition . The inner label has a matt black appearance and a slight spindle mark. On the inner label the writing is in silver, the copyright writing is very close to the edge of the label.  Matrix number Side one:PSS-139-EP-A-I-EG in run off groove, wrote in extremely small letters. Matrix  number Side two:PSS-139-EP-B-1-EG in run off groove,wrote in extremely small letters.

I could have easily graded this as mint/mint condition but i try to be as honest as possible with my gradings and when you compare this to others that have sold over the years, i feel this one is head and shoulders above them. (you can check previous sales and prices on popsike.com)

AUTHENTICITY: This copy has all the distinguishing characteristics of an original as described on the Joy Division Central website at http://www.joydiv.org/I3.htm.

First, the record itself:
1. There is a serrated band about 1.5 mm wide pressed into the vinyl, located just outside the edge of the label.
2. The matrix numbers are handwritten and very small (about 1 mm tall).
3. The initials "EG" appear in the run-out grooves on both sides. They are just a hair over 1 mm tall.
4. There is only about 1.5 mm between the printed copyright information and the edge of the label.
5. The label has a matte finish. Only the faintest hint of a sheen can be detected under very close inspection.
6. The contours of the label area match those of an original.
