HISTORY
This 4-track 7" EP was recorded at the Pennine Sound Studio, Oldham in December 1977 when the band were still known as WARSAW. It was eventually released in the summer of 1978 on the bands' own Enigma label, despite them not being happy with the sound quality, after the band name change to Joy Division.
This was their first official release and before signing to the legendary Factory Records label, and only 1000 copies pressed. Given how few surface some 35 years on it begs the question how many are still in existence, or in serviceable condition?

The sleeve, which showed a controversial image of a Hitler Youth drumming boy alongside the 'Joy Division!' name, folds out into a 14" x 14" poster sleeve which was designed by band guitarist Bernard Albrecht (nee Sumner). Legend has it that the band had to fold the sleeves and add the vinyl 7"s themselves!

The 7" has been the subject of various bootleg 're-issues'.

CONDITION

The matt black label has silver lettering with the catalogue number PSS139

Matrix numbers read:

PSS-139-EP-A-1 EG
PSS-139-EP-B-1 EG

The vinyl itself does show some signs of being played, with a cosmetic scuff mark on side 2, some light spindle wear, and a few inaudible hairline marks on the playing surface, although as mentioned above the band were not over happily with the actual sound recording quality, hence the reason that it was re-released on 12" vinyl for superior clarity.

The black & white sleeve folds out into a 1-sided 14" x 14" 'poster'. The overall condition is excellent with some light foxing, and only very minimal discolouration. There is the a faded name of the one previous owner penned in the top left hand corner, however this does not detract from the overall feel of this piece of Joy Division history. Due to being made from a nice heavy stock card it has remained intact, but should still be handled with great care.

This particular copy we are delighted to offer was bought from the band at the time of release, and has been enjoyed, and then stored away only to now see the light of day again.

This historical record is easily the holy grail for any serious Joy Division collector, and something that no collector should be without, and is deserving of its place in musical history given the legacy of the iconic Manchester band that it spawned

I hope this record goes to someone who will cherish it much as i would, because even getting to see this was easily the happiest moment of my life.
