Als “Closer” veröffentlicht wurde, lag der Selbstmord des schwer epilepsiekranken Ian Curtis bereits drei Monate zurück. Damit war die Geschichte von Joy Division bereits zu Ende, auch wenn das Rumpf-Trio aus Sumner, Hook und Morris als New Order zu einer weiteren bedeutenden 80er-Band wurden. Wobei man sich auch die Frage stellen muß, wohin diese Geschichte nach “Closer” noch hätte führen können: Das Album ist noch verstörender als das Debüt, wirkt zerrissen; die karge Produktion (wieder Martin Hannett) erweckt den Eindruck von Nacktheit. Die Band scheint zu explodieren, die Intensität dieser Songs überschreitet die Schmerzgrenze. Es gibt wahrscheinlich Platten, die ein ähnliches Maß an Schockwirkung und Authentizität erreicht haben. Aber viele sind’s gewiß nicht. (1980/2005)............................

So sehen Klassiker aus. Im Ernst: Das von Peter Saville gestaltete Cover hat die Aura von etwas Bedeutendem – was wohl das Mindeste ist, was man über das Debüt dieser Band, aus der nach dem tragisch frühen Tod von Leadsänger Ian Curtis New Order wurde, sagen muß. Die 80er hatten noch gar nicht angefangen, als diese für sie so maßgebliche LP erschien. Joy Division und Produzent Martin Hannett ließen Punk und seine Begleiterscheinungen weit hinter sich; mit schneidender Kälte und gleichzeitig unglaublicher emotionaler Kraft wurde der Grundstein für den Independent Rock gelegt. Das gilt für jeden Aspekt dieser LP: Bernard Albrechts (später nannte er sich Bernard Sumner) Gitarrespiel, der charakteristische Bass von Peter Hook, Stephen Morris’ kristallines Schlagzeug. Und natürlich der Gesang: Daß Musik für Ian Curtis eine Angelegenheit auf Leben und Tod war, hört man in jedem Ton. Nicht zuletzt ist da die klangliche Ästhetik: Martin Hannetts Anteil an “Unknown Pleasures” ist kaum weniger visionär als der der Musiker. Wie weit der Einfluß dieser so kurzlebigen Band reicht, läßt sich noch nicht ermessen: Im Moment werden noch täglich neue Gruppen gegründet, in deren Wertekanon Joy Division ganz oben stehen. Nach Ian Curtis’ Selbstmord und dem daraus resultierenden Ende der wegbereitenden Band überschwemmte eine Flut von Bootlegs den Markt – das Factory-Label, auf dem die beiden Studio-Alben erschienen waren, versuchte daraufhin dem etwas entgegenzusetzen und veröffentlichte die Raritätensammlung „Still“. In zwei Teilen, deren erster (dieser) aus Studioouttakes besteht, großenteils gar aus gänzlich unveröffentlichten Songs. Höhepunkte: „Glass“, „Dead Souls“, „Ice Age“ und insbesondere „Something Must Break“. Der letzte Song leitet in den zweiten, aus Liveaufnahmen bestehenden Teil über: Eine Coverversion des Velvet Underground-Klassikers „Sister Ray“ vom März 1980, über siebeneinhalb Minuten! (1981/2006)...................

The 4-LP/RECORD-BOX is FACTORY SEALED !! The BOX/Booklet includes the complete original artwork, linernotes and Photos. There are none cracks in the BOX, ..... none of seams are split or corners badly damaged. It is not a cut-out. (No saw marks or drill holes.) sorry, ..... with litte dents (corners of the box) in the box and a tear in cellophan-bag. It is a completely original PREMIUM VINYL PRESSING in ENGLAND (U.K.). This analoge 4-LP/RECORD-BOX is long out of print and is an extremely rare title.  This is one of the rarest titles to find, especially perfect FACTORY SEALED.  This analoge 4-LP/RECORD-BOX comes from my own collection and smoke-free environment. ........
