Description
In 1977, Justin Hayward released his first solo album titled, 'Songwriter'(DES 18073). A beautiful record; recorded simply (with Hayward playing virtually all the instruments) and without all the heavy production associated with The Moody Blues. Though, it must be mentioned, Tony Clarke (the man who produced all the Moodies classic albums from 1967 to 1978) is credited with producing this record. The strength of the melodies were enough to carry the album and I still believe it to be Hayward's best solo effort.
The copy I am offering is the exceedingly rare 1977 Promo edition, put together in limited quantities for record stores in the U.S.
Included within the Lp sleeve, one, 4" x 5" sticker, and one, 9" x 8.5" window decal. (See photos) London records in the U.S. commissioned artist Jack Davis (of 'MAD' magazine fame) to draw a caricature of Justin Hayward to be later used as a window decal to help promote the album. Until it is peeled and stuck to a window, the cartoon image will appear to be in "reverse". But in one of the photos I've uploaded, I raised the decal to a light source to give you an idea of what it will look like when it is unpeeled. Believe me, it will look much more detailed and impressive when displayed properly.
You will be hard pressed to find one of these "complete" promo copies again....especially in this condition.
Condition of Lp Jacket: Near Mint...hardly a flaw to be seen. One corner has a bump, while the spine has a couple of inoffensive creases. "Promo" label at upper right of front cover.
Condition of Original Inner-Sleeve: VG+(+)....due to the delicate texture of the paper, and age, seam splits appear on each side. This can be easily mended with tape if desired. A new, high quality sleeve will be provided to house the precious record.
Condition of Promo sticker and Window Decal: Near Mint....only some mild evidence of handling and age are seen on these very rare items.
Condition of Record: Near Mint....beautiful shine....played not more than a couple of times.
