Description
This is a highly serviceable copy of the 1963 classic pressing of Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue. It has the original NY USA labels and the Plastylite Ear, making it an original Blue Note, although I've heard the first pressings are deep groove on either side 1 or side 2 (this is not a deep groove).
Sleeve Condition (VG+) The sleeve is in VG+ condition with only mild wear to the laminate cover. There is some seem wear to the top seem (pictured) and very mild peeling of the laminate on the right edge, but no structural splitting.
Vinyl Condition (VG / VG) Side 1 - Plays with clear and powerful sound. Good gloss to the record. There is surface noise present (light crackle) throughout much of this side (especially the very beginning, in between tracks and in the quiet parts) and a small scratch on the first track that produces a soft to medium sounding tic for about 20 rotations. Also a few other occasional pops that appear to be the cause of surface abrasions. There are visible superficial marks (paper scuffs and hairlines); maybe a couple tiny ones you can feel with a fingernail. Overall I would give it a strong VG.
Side 2 - Plays nicely with clear and strong sound. Overall I would say it plays cleaner than side 1. There are a number of paper scuffs and hairlines but NONE that I could feel with a fingernail. No deep scratches. Overall I would this side a strong VG very close to VG+ but just misses the mark.
Note, I would guess this album would benefit greatly from being played on a mono cartridge. I have play graded on a stereo cartridge would produces a lot of extra surface noise and splatter on older Blue Note records in my experience (especially this one as Rudy had the levels turned VERY high when it was pressed to vinyl).
I'm a serious collector of classic jazz records and am starting to sell some of my collection where I have duplicate copies of records. I consider myself a conservative grader as most of the records I'm selling are being listed a grade down from where they were sold to me.
If you have any issues with any of the records you buy from me, please do not hesitate to contact.
