Celebration CEL-1936, 1976 original issue 1st pressing (Canada)
Genuinely rare and under-the-radar gem from this criminally unknown Montreal duo from the province of Quebec (Canada).
Robert Le Blanc and Alain Lalancette carefully crafted and recorded some two dozen tracks between 1971 and 1976 before deciding to finally release their unique 2 albums simulataneously.....in similar, though not identical, French and English versions (both in '76). Other Quebec artists had done the same (Sinners, Contraction and Charles Kaczynski come to mind), although they didn't take 5 years to record their respective albums.
Writen and recorded as a concept album, the story revolves around nature, love poetry politics and days gone by, with lots of trippy psychedelics and progressive twists. The Intro certainly sets the tone with it's teasing chant " I just took a smoke....and it's OoohKay ! " (*English version only), before jumping right into some wicked Beatle-esque backward tape effects (Nice !). The music and vocals throughout are top-notch (they're supported by a superb band).......and they stir up an eclectic mix of soft dreamy ballads, progressive rock melodies, trippy tape loops, fuzz guitar bursts and even boogie rock.
Unknown when released on a small local label Celebration (Harmonium, Opus 5, Le Temp, Sinners), with no radio play and little or no distribution outside of Quebec, neither album sold well.....quickly disappearing into eternal obscurity (now long out-of-print and never re-issued). While the French version ("Le Soleil Au Dessus De Nous", Celebration CEL-1936) is now very hard-to-find, the English LP (released to a French-dominated audience), saw absolutely no sales at all....and it's now near impossible to find (see our other listing).

L'étonnante et mystérieuse pochette dissimule une merveille de pop psychédélique, à la fois complexe et originale et en dit long sur les heures consacrées (toutes les subtilités, effets et collages sonores ne se dévoileront qu'avec le temps). Alors qu'une multitude de musiciens, dont des membres d'Opus 5 se joignent à Robert Le Blanc et Alain Lalancette, les informations qu'offre la toile ne sont que lapidaires. Pourtant, cet album existe en deux versions, quasiment identiques (anglaise et française). "
