Description

LED ZEPPELIN II A2 / B2 Atlantic 58818 UK 1969 Red/Plum LABEL
This rare second pressing on the red/plum label has 'The Lemon Song' credit on the label as well as on the cover of course.  This is before later pressings replaced it with 'The Killing Floor' on the label and for this reason this pressing is highly collectible.  The audio on this pressing is of a very high quality so will no doubt appeal to the avid collectors out there :-)
The gatefold and label has 'Livin' Lovin' Maid' on the credits.
The record has the Jimmy Page production credit on both the label and gatefold and Peter Grant as the Executive Producer on the gatefold only.

Visual grading
This vinyl still has a lovely glossy sheen and has been very carefully handled down the years.  There is some spindle wear but not excessively so.  Under a bright light I could only see a few very faint hairlines on Side One due more to sleeve removal no doubt.  Side Two has a few more perhaps and a couple of very small fine scratches but in all honesty you will be hard pressed to find a better looking A2/B2 red/plum pressing than this one.
Play grading
The classic 'Whole Lotta Love' has minimal lead in static so you're thinking this is gonna sound good!  There is one faint click at the beginning but from then on the track proceeds to play with stunning audio and hardly any interference.  A little distortion perhaps but the clarity and and strength of the bass really come to the fore here.  For such an early pressing to sound as good as this is a rarity and the lack of background noise is incredible.  The quiet intro to 'What is and What Should Never Be' has only the slightest of static.  The second quiet section does have four clicks but apart from that the track plays with high end audio with stunning bass again and great power.  Just a hint of very quiet static here and there.  'The Lemon Song' continues in the same vein and plays in impeccable style.  There is just no interference, the clarity once again is jaw droppingly good!  The prolonged bass section plays so cleanly and with such power it is hard to believe this vinyl is from 1969.  'Thank You' has one click near the start but again plays with barely any other interference, just some minor distortion and minor background static.  Extremely minor though!  Even the quiet ending plays with superlative audio.
The classic 'Heart Breaker' on Side Two has fabulous that plays loud and clear! Astonishing quality.  Once more the depth and resonance of the sound is immense and the bass again shines through.  'Livin' Lovin Maid' just well..rocks out!  Great sound with just some minor distortion on the top end.  'Ramble On' has a few light clicks but they are very much in the background as to not be intrusive.  It still plays extremely well with very clear audio.  'Moby Dick' plays in exceptional style and the drum solo is just incredible and has no interference whatsoever!  The quiet section on 'Bring It On Home' plays so cleanly with only a hint of static.  A little distortion again on Jimmy's playing but maybe that is more due to my system.  The ending does play with a little crackle, the only crackle on the whole LP really!
For an A2/B2 red/plum pressing now approaching 50 years old to play as well as this is a rarity and especially one with 'The Lemon Song' credit.  You expect at least some static/crackle but here there is just so little interference.  Yes there are a few clicks but overall the album is a wonderful listen and rarely have I heard better.

Gatefold cover
The E.J. Day gatefold is in excellent condition with only minor shelf wear.  The edges and corners have some rubbing but the spine remains in great shape.  So often it is worn badly but not this one!  It is still beautifully clean.  As can be seen there is a sticker removal mark on the top right corner but there are no other marks on the front cover.  The back has some light creasing, minor ringwear and a small number of indents but again is very clean.  The inside of the gatefold is in superb condition and the opening edge looks only lightly handled. This is without doubt a very clean early press gatefold.
Inner sleeve
The poly-lined 'Plastic Bags Can Be Dangerous' inner sleeve is in excellent condition with no splits to the sides just light creasing.  I'm not sure if this is the original sleeve though.
The Labels
The red/plum labels are in excellent shape with no writing, just a few faint age related marks that you can only see under a certain light.  There is some spindle wear although not a massive amount.
