Description
Label/Format: Atlantic Deluxe – Red and Maroon (‘Plum’) format. This is the much rarer original format that denotes a ‘first pressing’ with the Jimmy Page and Peter Grant credits near the top. Also the 2401002 Catalogue Number with no hyphen.
Label Condition: EXCELENT++ Superb examples, very clean and shiny; deep, rich colour with only minimal spindle marks.
Matrix Nos: 2401002 A-5 1 1 v 5 / 2401002 B-5 1 1 9 etched ‘GHC’
Run-Out Groove Etched Messages:‘Do what thou wilt’ / ‘So mote it be’.
Rarity: The Peter Grant credit was soon removed and the catalogue number changed to include a hyphen after the first pressing. The Jimmy Page credit remained but was then moved down the label nearer the 6 o’clock position. These original labels are far more elusive and far less seen nowadays.
Cover Condition: EXCELLENT+: a gatefold with the moving wheel with die cut windows on front, laminated front, back and inside. All of the circle windows are as new with no burring or damage. The wheel rotates easily and freely in both directions. The laminate retains a fine shine, clarity and freshness and any dulling is minimal and faint. If you look closely up to the light you can see the wheel spindle in the middle. There are no real marks apart from the odd light indented line. The edges are in excellent condition with only minimal wear to the bottom edge of the front cover of the gatefold. The inside and front wheel edges are in excellent condition.
Spine and Text: Very solid and dead straight with no wear and still very black. Text is perfect and unworn under very solid and uncracked laminate.
Corners: All corners are in excellent condition with minimal wear. The bottom spine corner has some slight creasing mainly to the front.
The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: the original Polydor-style polythene lined inner has minimal discolouration and some creasing to the corners with all edges unsplit and no repairs.
Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT: There are few light marks on both sides but these do not impair the sound quality. Generally a very clean copy with a very fine shine.
Sound Quality and Audio Grading: EXCELLENT+ Strong, sharp, distortion-free sound. Hardly any surface noise. The one and only fault is a single "click" at the beginning of track 2 on side 1 but there is no visual evidence of any damage; If it wasn't for this I would have graded it Near Mint!
