LEE KNONITZ

With

WARNE MARSH

Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh were both taught by Lennie Tristano

Both participated in recording two pieces with Tristano In 1949

"Intuition" and "Digression"

which were completely improvised 

with absolutely nothing preconceived

The first such "Free Jazz" recorded

Lee Konitz came to fame playing on 

Miles Davis's 1949 Birth of the Cool sessions

By the 1950's both were at odds with Free-Jazz and Fusion

Influenced by Lennie Tristano's idea of "The Narrative of the Notes"

which avoided dynamic contrasts, crescendos and volume

and offered a warm melodic ingenuity 

within the strict boundaries of chord forms

Anthony Braxton lists Warne Marsh as one of his influences

and has recorded some of Warne's compositions

Recorded at East Coast Studios, 

New York, New York on June 15 & 21, 1956
