This is an original UK Vertigo pressing from the time of first release. It is not a modern reissue. This is widely regarded as one of the rarest Vertigo swirl LPs with several online forums stating that only 300 copies were pressed.
This has been played in full and play-grades to a high standard as detailed below.
The vinyl has retained its high sheen with very little to see. There are some light surface marks and hairlines visible under bright light, and a small cluster of short marks on the final track, which cause a few clicks and crackles, but there's nothing else significant. I've played the whole record in full from start to finish and it plays to a high standard with very little to report, despite the fact that Pieces of Me has lots of quiet and sparsely arranged tracks. For the sake of completeness I would mention some minor background noise in the run-ins/outs, fades, silent grooves and intros, and the occasional random click. On side one there was nothing else to mention and so I would play-grade side one as Excellent Plus (Ex+). Side two mainly played to a similar standard, however there were a few more random clicks as well as about half-a-dozen clicks in 'The Ballad of Marty Mole' and about eight in 'Barrel House Music' (which aren't obvious as it is one of the louder tracks) with some clicks in the run-out at the end of the side. Other than this, side two would have graded about the same as side one, but to allow for these small issues I would play-grade side two as Excellent Minus (Ex-).
Please look at the photos to see the condition of the labels, inner sleeve and cover.
The labels have relatively light spindle marking, especially the A side label, suggesting that the record, especially side two, was rarely played.
The gatefold cover has no seam splits, but shows various signs of wear and use, including edge-wear, corner-wear, ring-wear etc. There are also some feint pen marks/numbers (on the black parts, so hard-to-see), plus some touching-in to small surface damage in a few places. All these issues are shown close-up in the final five photos. The cover will be sent in the thick PVC sleeve shown in photos 2-7 as this presents the cover at its best and protects it.
The swirl inner sleeve has neat, internal repairs to split seams, but these have been done well so that they don't really notice. Other than this there is just some discolouration from age and a few creases.
Detracting features not covered above: None.
All photographs are of the actual item for sale. Please ask any questions before you bid or buy.
Where gradings are given these are based on the UK Record Collector grading system (see below) and are visual gradings only, unless the listing specifically states that it is a play-grading.
I use the UK RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM. This grading system differs from some other grading systems, in particular the Goldmine grading system. Please make sure that you are familiar with the UK record collector grading system before you bid.
Mint: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
Excellent: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
Very Good: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
Good: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
Fair: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
Poor: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
Bad: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
Plus (+) or Minus (-) are added where items fall between gradings. I only ever use one plus or minus.
