Lonnie McIntorsh was a remarkable Memphis gospel singer who did a handful of solo songs as well as a handful of songs as ‘Elder McIntorsh.’ Lonnie has a very tender voice, and on the song “Sleep On Mother, Sleep On” his crying delivery really plays well with the increasingly quick instrumentation. On the other side is “The Lion And The Tribes of Judah,” and both are from his first recording session at the Memphis Auditorium on January 31, 1928. I gotta wonder if that’s Will Shade from the Memphis Jug Band on the guitar. It’s a rarely seen record, in exceptional condition.
