Description
Another legendary item here from the coffers of War Child, you literally won't get anything like this again so don't let the opportunity slip by.
This item is a letter from Lou Reed to Brian Eno about formal handkerchiefs and has drawings from Reed's long-term partner and artist Laurie Anderson. Sounding a bit random?
Let's go back 11 years: War Child hold a fund raising event called 'Pagan Fun Wear'. Rock stars, artists, celebrities etc are asked to design a costume to then be made by fashion students. Brian Eno is very involved in organising the event. Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson jump on board and provide War Child with some fantastic ideas and drawings. 2006: The evidence is unearthed and we decide it would be selfish to keep it all to ourselves/we could make a few quid from it!
So, the letter: "Here's a sketch for a leather + silk formal handkerchief to be worn in jacket pocket or right rear pocket of blue jeans..." It's all about this handkerchief Reed dreamt up...some may call it mundane but the attention to random detail is pretty fascinating; or you might just like to stroke this hand-written piece from the legendary Lou Reed. Whatever floats your boat. The letter is the original, it's hand-written and we can provide a letter of authenticity if requested.
Onto the drawings then. We have the original drawing by Laurie Anderson (performance artist and Lou Reed's long-term partner) of Reed's handkerchief (to accompany the letter) and we also have a fax copy of Anderson's own design for 'Head Phone Hats' (see pictures). A great idiosyncratic item of rock memorabilia!
Promo-Amnesty ’06!
This is the second year of War Child Music’s ‘promotional amnesty’: we delve into the mysterious world of music and film companies and return laden with the treasure that you couldn’t possibly hope to get your hands on elsewhere. These record labels, music and film magazines, games companies and PR companies generously part with their promotional goods so that we can run our annual jamboree, bringing you the things you dreamt of, and raising money for our invaluable work for children affected by war. Last year we raised over 8 grand - enough to release 160 child soldiers in the DRC for example - providing much needed financial support for our other work in Iraq, Afghanistan and Bosnia.
