Description

Led Zeppelin 1

This is arguably one of the rarest Led Zeppelin records in the world, if not one of the rarest records full stop!

It is reported that maybe only 2,000 of the turquoise covers were ever printed, and nowadays you hardly ever see them on ebay.

I swapped an accordion with Andy Johns, who I worked with briefly in the 80s, for this record.  It was his older brother Glyn, who produced the record.  I don't really want to part with it, but the wolf is at the door , so to ebay it must go!!

Uncorrected matrix - 58817 A//1 and 58817 B//1
Later versions have the 'corrected matrix' with the second 8 of the stamped matrix crossed out, a 7 (the 587 prefix was used for Atlantic mono recordings at this time) is then hand written above it and subsequently changed back to an 8.

Red and Plum label
Superhype /Jewelmusic credits.
The publishing credits were changed to Warner/7 Arts almost as soon as the LP was released so 'Superhype' copies are incredibly rare.

MacNeil Press Ltd credit
I will try my very best to honestly describe the record using grading guides that I have always used.

The Sleeve

The sleeve is in fantastic condition, when you think its over 40 years old!  There are no rips or tears.  There is no writing or stains.  There are no stickers, nor have stickers ever been on it!  the record still lies nicely flat and the laminated front still retains its wonderful shine and colours.  There is a a slight laminate crease just under the atlantic sign at the bottom right hand side, but this is only small.  There is also a minute cm long discoloured crack/crease to the left.  The spine is still perfectly readable and straight, with the original catolgue number sitting proud.  There are a few minor spine cracks/creases, and other than some slight storage wear to the edges, this is a stunning example of such a rare record.  The rear of the record is also in excellent condition, with all the colours vibrant and no evidence of rip, tears, splits etc   EXCELLENT-

Inner Sleeve

No rips or tears, just some creasing EXCELLENT

Vinyl Visually

To look at the record looks superb!  It still retains that original shine and majesty and looks almost new.  Under direct sunlight you can see 5 or 6 minor hairlines per side, but it obvious this has not been overplayed, and has been cared for.  In fact in the last15 years, i might have got it out maybe 3 times and played it maybe once.

Vinyl Audio

I have listened to the record from start to finish and it sound utterly superb!  There are no jumps or skips at all.  The dynamics of the recording are really superb.  I have a couple of copies of this record and not one compares to this.  Each element of the bandsounds so perfectly defined!  There is a little gentle hiss on the quiet parts of side 2 and the occaional click, but only really minor, and thats through some real nice cans! There is no distortion on the really loud parts.  Overall, I would grade this as EXCELLENT

Labels

The labels look fantastic with no rips, tears, stains or writing.  There a few mild spindle marks, but as you can see from the pictures these are almost invisible!  EXCELLENT+

Overall, this is a stunning example of a truly mega rare record.
