MARC BOLAN – The Third Degree / San Francisco Poet ORIG Decca 45 / F 12413 (UK, Mono, 1966)
Marc’s 2 Decca singles, this and ‘The Wizard’ are seriously accomplished records which easily stand up to most of his later, more famous work. For me they’re MUCH better than the Tyrannosaurus Rex material. Often, it’s the case that early singles from famous artists aren’t that great but not so here. Not only is this 45 one of Marc’s rarest discs worldwide, it’s also a superb double sider – 2 very good songs indeed. I can bring this STOCK copy to you in fabulous condition too with absolutely NO impediment to the audio.
The single is presented in the classic 1960’s orange Decca company sleeve (believed to be its original). This is in EX (Excellent) condition.
The deep blue Decca labels are fine – just some very light spindle evidence to either side (not even moderate and hardly visible). NO writing, sticker pulls, residue or scrapes (please see the photos). A great pair of these vintage labels.
The vinyl has survived in tremendous shape during its 47 year existence. Visually, one surface scuff mark and a single hairline to the A-side, looks EX (Excellent), while the B looks pretty much unmarked – maybe the tiniest single hairline so EX+ (Excellent Plus)minimum. There are no scratches, no embedded dirt and no warping – sits dead flat on the turntable. IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays brilliantly! By that I mean I heard NO snap, crackle or pop, no clicks, no hiss and no distortion or loss of clarity. I didn’t even pick up any soft ticks nor any appreciable surface noise on the run-ins. This sounds seriously fresh!
A very well looked after copy of this immensely rare disc which looks very clean and sounds just knockout. Don’t miss this!
