Original copy of this seminal heavy prog gem and extremely rare these days (and always has been). Splendid crushing riffs and great distortion of the time. This really inspired many heavy psych/prog outfits at the time but also future prog metal outfits. Definitely one of my early heavy prog/psych/blues crossover favourites. 

 THE VINYL COPY OF 'MAY BLITZ' IS THE UNITED KINGDOM FIRST-PRESS ISSUE, WITH FIRST-PRESS LABELS, AND FIRST-PRESS IDENTIFICATION NUMBERS. THIS EXCELLENT RECORD IS LONG-DELETED AND HAS BECOME HIGHLY-PRIZED BY COLLECTORS OF QUALITY VINYL AND LOVERS OF FINE MUSIC. CATCH THIS IF YOU CAN - IT IS AN ABSOLUTE CORKER! THIS IS THE ORIGINAL UNITED KINGDOM FIRST-PRESSING. MEAN, LEAN WITHOUT AN OUNCE OF FAT! 

MAY BLITZ were formed by vocalist/guitarist Jamie Black who recruited Tony Newman on drums, (ex Sounds Incorporated and Jeff Beck Group), and Reid Hudson (bass, vocals) in 1969. The original lineup featured bassist Terry Poole and drummer Keith Baker, from Bakerloo, but both left before recording anything for the band. Baker had a better offer from Uriah Heep, and went to record "Salisbury" with the band.

The band survived long enough to record two incredibly heavy, powerful and psychedelic albums with strong blues undertones and progressive tendencies, despite the lack of keyboards. These were released on Vertigo, who we also associate with Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep - but the music is probably heavier than either. Their style comes in somewhere around High Tide and the Pink Fairies - but these are really ballparks. 

Their debut album is a must-hear for anyone curious about the development of heavy music, and features a production which is rich and clear enough to provide the striking dynamic contrasts the music needs, as it occasionally veers from ambience to crushing riffs in the blink of an eye. It is certainly very unpredictable, even now.




They're surely an overlooked progressive blues/rock/psychedelic band with a massive scarcity value, and music that is original and highly progressive to boot!

Vinyl: VG+ to EX. A great vinyl which has been played but certainly not in excess. It has been cared for very clearly and there are only a couple of very wispy hairlines and paper retraction traces just visible under a very strong light source. The audio is really stunning and this is a quality recording indeed. Just a couple of light pops on the second track side 1. The stereo definition is awesome and this beats any re-issue hands down. What an immense recording! Extremely hard to find in the first place. In this really nice condition you will struggle to find one anytime soon. Needles to say, NO jumps, NO skips etc.

Gatefold sleeve: VG.  Without doubt one of the harder Vertigo gatefolds to still find intact especially being matt!! It has tape deposits to all sides applied for protection of the edges at the time.  Otherwise the sleeve looks splendid with just one fill near the Vertigo logo where there was once a sticker tear. The spine is still 100% legible with light wear.  No writing or foxing anywhere. NO tears, NO splits. This has to be seen in the flesh to be properly appreciated. The pictures give you some impression of the quality at hand in this auction.

The original inner Vertigo swirl sleeve is still present with poly liner still attached. It has one small side seam split and some writing in ballpoint with track durations and catalogue number. It has the original date stamp of "0470".
