BEAUTIFUL ((mint)) original 1967 first pressing vinyl on the sought 360 Sound Columbia label of the sixties!

One of the BEST copies we've fouind in recent years ~ cover AND record are pristine mint TOPS!

After the release of "Lady Friend" in July of '67, the band released a less experimental single, "Goin' Back." By the time the song was released in late October, Crosby was no longer with the band. In fact, although he was still a Byrd when "Goin' Back" was recorded, Crosby hated the song and declined to participate in its recording. (He knew at the time that the song was in competition with his "Triad" for a slot on the next LP.) Thus, this song can be considered the first release by the third incarnation of the Byrds: McGuinn, Hillman and Clarke, with hired gun Jim Gordon subbing for Clarke.

"Goin' Back", had been a Top Ten hit in the UK for Dusty Springfield during the summer of 1966. It's a wistful ballad about trying to recapture the innocence of youth, a motif that would run throughout the entire album soon to come. Like most of the Notorious tracks here, it's leavened with hints of rural, psychedelic and Sgt. Pepper-style chamber pop (a celeste, cello and harp), lush vocals, the mid-tempo beat, and the tinkling celeste. The recording of the album during the summer and fall of 1967 was marked by internal dissolution, as two more of the band's five original members had left the group by the time the LP was released, Gene Clark having departed in early 1966. David Crosby was fired by other members during the making of this album, a result of both friction over the previous months, especially at the Monterey Pop festival in the summer, and disagreement during the early sessions for this album. Drummer Michael Clarke also quit the group in apparent dissatisfaction over the material chosen by Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman. It has been suggested that the horse on the cover was intended as a replacement for Crosby. The band weaves its signature vocal harmonies and chiming guitars through a lusher, more impressionistic art-pop tapestry that stops just short of post-Sgt. Pepper cliché, employing phased vocals, and sound effects. Thematically, the project pits utopian innocence ("Tribal Gathering," "Dolphins Smile") against a new wariness ("Artificial Energy," a cautionary look at amphetamines, and the Vietnam vignette of "Draft Morning"). In a field of well-paced, inventive songs that have become timeless gems.

CONDITION: The cover is stiff, solid seams, pristine primo MINT. nearest perfect copy 41 years old!
