In 1968 the Melodiya company released a set of 13 mono records with all 32 Beethoven Piano Sonatas (33D-023459-84). The recording was made in the Great Hall of the Moscow State Conservatoiry on a Steinway Grand Piano in 1964-67 (sound engineer Valentin Skoblo).
The stereo version was released in 1975 (?10-05573-98).
Thus, Maria Grinberg was the first Soviet pianist to present a complete cycle of Beethoven's Piano Sonatas to the public. The recording was praised by Dmitry Shostakovich. The Soviet music press was silent about this titanic work.
Maria Grinberg did not live to see the first review for three months, and in 1978 in the Soviet magazine "Music" critic Yudenich called this recording "a true feat of art."
