One of Miles Davis' early dates as a leader, Diggin' has subsequently been released as part of a few different packages, including two-fers and single-album compilations. Taken as a distinct set of songs, Diggin' offers a fine view of Davis at his youthful best. This may not quite stand up to such later offerings as his Blue Note sessions and classic quartet work, but the LP does include such Davis highlights as "Dig," "It's Only a Paper Moon," and "Denial." The sound is cool bop and the solos come courtesy of a young Sonny Rollins, Jackie McLean, Walter Bishop, Jr., and Davis himself."...
