COMMENTS:.....Jim Flora's manic illustrations featured bug-eyed jazz gremlins, totem-pole figureheads, geometric cityscapes, and Moebius strip trumpets. Their two-dimensionality made them appear childlike, yet a sinister edge lent a tinge of sophistication. His overall perspective seemed filtered through Lucifer's looking glass. Robert Leslie, a New York gallery director and Floraphile, once observed that Flora "succeeds in making you laugh, as every good cartoonist should.
