Description
This LP is a record of the Japanese contemporary music festival ‘Orchestral Space’ held at the Nissei Theater in Tokyo in May 1966. It is Volume 2 – there was apparently a volume 1 with all Japanese works. The disc contains Gyorgy Ligeti’s Atmosphères, Iannis Xenakis’s Strategie for 2 conductors and 2 orchestras, John Cage’s The Wonderful Widow of 18 Springs for voice and piano, Roger Reynolds’s Ambages for solo flute and Motohiko Adachi’s Conceto Grosso for string orchestra. Participating performers are the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa and Hiroshi Wakasugi (also pianist), Mutumi Masuda (soprano), Ryu Noguchi (flute). Victor SJV 1513, issued 1967. There are extensive notes with composer photographs, but all in Japanese apart from the back cover, which is in English. In spotless condition, the LP has probably been played once. The item will be despatched in a purpose-built LP mailer, with cardboard stiffeners.
