I listened to the record again today and the quality is very very good. I really do think anyone buying this record will be extremely happy with how it sounds for its age. It has been in storage in my home for the last 31 years and before that in my parent’s home.

I first thought beginning was number 11 but checked again and am fairly positive it is a 4.

A RARE ORIGINAL SUN 45 RPM RECORD

I am going through my dad’s record collection from the 40’s & 50’s including old Jazz, Soul, Rock, Country, Rockabilly, Big Band, and R&B vinyl records and am offering up on Ebay this rare collectible sun records 45 of Raymond Hill’s only sun single "The Snuggle" / "Bourbon Street Jump." It is Sun single # 204.

The record is in VG+ condition and plays through fine with some light snaps and crackles, which add charm and character to this great old 45. There are a couple of light scratches on the Bourbon Street Jump Side, but they do not affect the sound. This is an ORIGINAL Sun release, not the re-issue copy that is seen on Ebay.

I COPIED THE FOLLOWING HISTORY FROM A LISTING IN 2013 BECAUSE IT OFFERED SUCH GOOD HISTORY ON THE ARTIST. NO INTENTION OF MISREPRESENTING MY RECORD.

Raymond Earl Hill was an American tenor saxophonist and singer. He was best known as a member of Ike Turner's band the Kings of Rhythm in the 1950s, and also recorded under his own name and worked as a session musician.

He was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi. His father ran a juke joint which featured many blues musicians and Hill eventually learned to play the saxophone.

Together with his friend, drummer Billy Gayles, he started playing in Ike Turner's bands in the late 1940s, both the Tophatters big band and the smaller Kings of Rhythm. Hill was Turner's regular tenor saxophone player at the band's first recording sessions at the Sun Studio in Memphis, Tennessee, in March 1951, which produced the R&B classic "Rocket 88", credited to Hill's fellow saxophonist and singer Jackie Brenston. The record features a solo by the 17-year-old Hill, after Brenston's cry of "blow your horn, Raymond, blow!". The single reached no.1 on the R&B chart and has often been called "the first rock and roll record".

Receiving no royalities or credit, Raymond Hill quit Ike Turner in 1952 and began recording a few sides for Sam Phillips' Sun label in 1952, which remained unissued until Charly Records started issuing these Sun recordings in 1970s. He continued to play on some of Turner's records, and also worked as a session musician at Sun and other local labels such as Highwater, backing Howlin' Wolf and Little Junior Parker among others. In October 1952 he recorded a session with his own band, including Turner's former guitarist Willie Kizart, which remained unreleased for many years. He also recorded with Turner's band, featuring Turner on guitar and Billy Emerson on piano, releasing the single "The Snuggle" / "Bourbon Street Jump" under his own name on Sun in April 1954, both sides being instrumentals. Hill absolutely burns on his instrumental "The Snuggle," alternating between late-night swooning and relentless pounding. It was Hills only Sun record under his own name and very rare to find an original today.

During this time, he also accompanied many other R&B artists. It's his tenor sax you hear on Junior Parker's "Mystery Train". /From 1955, he returned to working in Turner's band on a full-time basis, and moved to St. Louis, Missouri with them. The resulting 1956/57 Federal recordings of Ike Turner's Kings Of Rhythm were all gathered up in 1991 and are available on Charly CD 263 - a must CD if you're a fan of Billy "I'm Tore Up" Gayles, Jackie Brenston, Clayton Love, Ike Turner and Raymond Hill.

A very hard to find sun 45, especially in this decent condition.
