ORIGINALLY RECORDED FOR CONRAD ROOK'S 1966 MOVIE 'Chappaqua' (a semi-autobiographical story of his travels to France to undergo a drug-withdrawal cure with flashbacks to the beginnings of psychedelia in San Francisco) - BUT NEVER USED IN THE FILM

THE TWO RECORDS ARE HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL OUTER LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE WHICH STILL RETAINS THE GOLD 'Grand Prix du Disque 1967 Jazz' STICKER (nice touch)

Originally commissioned by actor/director Conrad Rooks as the soundtrack to his film Chappaqua, the music was not used.
Rooks decided upon hearing Coleman's music that he found it was so beautiful that he feared it would overpower the imagery and action of the film.
Instead, Columbia Records released it as a double album, but gave it very little promotion and the album sold poorly.
It was taken out of print the following year and has since come back into print intermittently and in very small editions.
Chappaqua Suite was Coleman's first studio recording with his trio featuring David Izenzon on bass and Charles Moffett on drums.
Coleman's suite is four parts, each occupying a full record side.
Tenor saxophonist Pharoah Sanders appears on the fourth part of the suite.

LABELS: NEAR MINT
Clean, unmarked labels with just a few light spindle traces on Record One and none that I can see on Record Two
VINYL Visual: EXCELLENT+/NEAR MINT
All four surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen with just some light hairlines/brush marks on Record One with Record Two unmarked - none of these marks have any audio impact.
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
My playback at loud volume revealed no real audio issues of note - just a couple of minor clicks at the very end of Part III (no evidence for these on the vinyl surface) otherwise, the whole set plays beautifully throughout with no scratches, no surface noise, no groove-wear or distortion and sounds absolutely stunning.
Played just a few times on top quality equipment (like the rest of the jazz records in this wonderful collection) the sound performance is crystal clear, clean, fresh and incredibly immediate with a nice loud cut
SLEEVE: NEAR MINT
Again, lovely condition with a deep glossy sheen to the outer laminated surfaces (with just a little record impression from the two heavyweight vinyls) and beautifully clean, fresh and white inner surfaces.
The edges and spine display no wear to speak of and all spine text is clear and bold
INNER SLEEVES: VERY GOOD
The two original tracing paper inners are incredibly delicate and it's amazing they have survived in any sort of condition.
They both have creasing to the corners and some splits but it's very nice to still have them in any shape or form as they make this copy complete and as issued in 1967.
The records are now housed in two new inner sleeves with new anti-static liners
