Description
Hello record collectors and vinyl junkies, I'm in the process of selling off the majority of my record collection to finance the ongoing restoration of a classic car...hopefully without going bankrupt! So please check back often, as I'll be listing hundreds of LPs over the next few months.
Anyway, let's continue with this one by The Out-Islanders Polynesian Fantasy released by Capitol Records in 1961 (T-1595 Monophonic) Original pressing black label with silver print, Capitol logo & silver bar on left side. Outer edge of label surrounded by rainbow colorbar LP comes with its original paper inner sleeve showing other Capitol releases.
Polynesian Fantasy is one of the great lost exotica classics. Released in 1961, these recordings feature Billy May conductor & arranger, Charlie Barnett saxophone, Jimmy Rowles piano, Ted Nash saxophone, Al Hendrickson guitar, Irv Cotter drums with Marni Nixon and Loulie Jean Norman on wordless vocals.
Billboard Magazine reviewed this album upon its release and had the following to say:
The most interesting thing about this group is the presence of Billy May as arranger and Charlie Barnett as sax soloist, neither of whom are known for their Polynesian productivities. However, the results are lush, Hawaiian stylings with much use of the steel guitar and various percussion instruments of the Islands set against a substantial woodwind section. Included are Ebb Tide, Beyond The Reef, and Poinciana and several numbers featuring the high soprano stylings of Loulie Jean Norman and Marni Nixon. Delightful mood was with a most displayable cover
From the liner notes:
When the Out-Islanders interpret the alluring music of the Islands, it is sometimes lush, sometimes rhythmically swinging. And at all times the sounds of the Out-Islanders have a discretely seasoned exotic flavor. This discretion comes in part from the presence of Billy May and Charlie Barnett. These two, perhaps better known for their successes with other types of music, have great feeling for the music of the South Seas. Because of this, and their love for the splendor of the out-islands, they formed the Out-Islanders for this recording. The all around brilliance of Billy's arranging, the saxophone artistry of Charlie, the delightful island sounds and songs all add up to a real listening experience in this Polynesian Fantasy.
LP contains the following tracks:
- My Tane
- Little Island
- The Moon Of Manakoora
- China Sea
- Beyond The Reef
- Sand In My Shoes
- Poinciana
- Return To Paradise
- Sea Breeze
- Moon Mist
- Ebb Tide
- Honorable Hong Kong Rock
Both LP and Cover are in near mint condition. The LP has no marks and looks unplayed. The cover has a 1/2" spot of wear on the upper right corner but no seam splits, cut out marks, writing, rips, tears or other flaws.
I grade on a stricter scale than Goldmine (at least the watered down version that seems to exist here on eBay) I will take the time to describe any flaws on both the cover and record itself rather than give a letter grade that will mean something different to seemingly every record buyer and seller.
I am a very picky record collector and have been let down many times buying a record that was graded VG++ or NM here on eBay and other mail order services that were pretty beat up...and I'm sure that has happened to you too!
Sorry if the photos above appear washed out...this is caused by the camera flash...the colors are brighter and bolder in person.
Please feel free to email with any questions but keep in mind that unless there is a "Buy It Now" price listed above, I will not respond to any questions or offers to end an auction early...Thanks for your understanding!
The fine print:
Payment is due within seven days after end of the auction. I only accept payment through Paypal - if you do not have a Paypal account, please email me BEFORE bidding to inquire about alternative payment methods.
Due to overwhelming requests, I generally ship domestic packages by Media Mail. However, please keep in mind that while Media Mail ihis the cheapest shipping method, it is also the slowest. Media Mail can take one month or MORE to arrive. Media Mail shipping within the United States is $4.00 including mandatory Delivery Confirmation.
I do combine shipping for multiple purchases. The $4.00 covers between one and two albums. Additional albums (three and up) are an additional .25 cents each. Please wait for an invoice from me as the Paypal system does not calculate the combined shipping.
Overseas shipping is by Air Mail only. Shipping for one LP to Canada is $7.00 and everywhere else in the world is $14.00. Overseas shipping is by regular air mail and can take anywhere from one to four weeks to arrive. I do combine shipping on overseas purchases - I will send an invoice with the combined shipping cost if you purchase more than one LP.
Sorry I no longer ship to Italy or the Russian Federation due to the high number of "lost" packages.
All records are mailed in cardboard record mailers with cardboard inserts to prevent damage. LP will be removed from the cover to prevent seam splits while in transit.
I do offer a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with your purchase. I do not make my living selling on eBay it is supposed to be a fun hobby so if there is a problem at any point during the transaction please let me know so we can work out a solution.
Thanks for looking and good luck!
