Description
*** PINK FLOYD - DARK SIDE OF THE MOON - UHQR - MFSL - VINYL GRADE: MINT MINUS ***
Background:
I purchased this vinyl (i.e., *** PINK FLOYD - DARK SIDE OF THE MOON - UHQR - MFSL - VINYL GRADE: MINT MINUS ***) from a highly reputable national vintage vinyl dealer as a previously owned mint minus vinyl. Upon receipt, I inspected the vinyl, and listened to the vinyl on my audiophile grade turntable. I concurred with the mint minus assessment. Thereafter, I cleaned the vinyl with an ultrasonic cleaner (Audio Desk (Ultra Systems) Vinyl Cleaner Pro) which I bought new. Thereafter, I listened to the vinyl approximately five more times over the course of approximately one year and then carefully packed the vinyl and have had it in temperature-controlled air-conditioned storage ever since. I have no pets and do not smoke. Lastly, I take meticulous care of my vinyl as I have been a collector for decades and have great regard for vinyl music.
Specs:
The pressing number is 4,695. This is a limited edition custom pressing out of 5,000. It is a UHQR pressing (Ultra High Quality Record) and was pressed by MFSL (Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab). It was made from the Master Stamper in Victor Company of Japan (JVC) in May 1981.
If you are unfamiliar with UHQR, I recommend researching the process and technology. The Technical Specifications Manual included provides substantial information regarding such. All to say that this is the gold standard of record pressing per se. I believe any audiophile would concur with such statement. If you are unfamiliar with MFSL, I recommend researching them as well given their pedigree and long standing history of audiophile grade vinyl manufacturing.
Regarding the album (musically), this is clearly a matter of taste and is subjective of course. However, it is commonly understood that this is a timeless classic. As far as the sound, it is one of THE best sounding vinyl records I own. Again, the UHQR factor, the MFSL factor and spectacular condition of the vinyl considering its age makes it a treasure for a collector.
Pictures:
All pictures were taken by me and were done in natural light with the following exception. The last 4 pictures were taken with additional lighting via 1,000 lumens LED. I took these pictures to display thin hair like scratches which I presume were accumulated over the 40 years. You will notice that the aforementioned 4 pictures are 2 for each side. One picture of the 3 o'clock position and one picture of the 6 o'clock position. The same was done for the other side. Most sellers do not go through this length of disclosure as it is understood that vintage vinyl (e.g., 40 years old) will have signs of use (e.g., thin hair like scratches). Nonetheless, I included this additional visual disclosure for the sake of full transparency.
