Description
On offer here is a very early first stereo press of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. It is pressed on the blue/black Columbia label and is in very good condition for its age considering it was released in 1967. Complete with E.J. Day flipback laminated cover.

This first press does have various hairlines but I think a lot of them are superficial and would not affect the sound quality. More due to record removal from the sleeve. To be honest you only see the hairlines whilst scrutinising closely under a bright light so I think many would grade the vinyl as Ex. Side two does have a couple of scratches that will cause pops and clicks but overall it is very much in a very good playable condition. It is certainly one of the better first blue/black Columbia first presses I have seen and I repeat is in great condition for its age, even older than me!
The laminated Ernest J. Day flipback cover does have some wear but nothing serious. The laminate has remained in place and for the most part there is no wear to the edges bar a little 'nick' on the top edge. The opening edge does have some rubbing at the top and and a very small tear at the bottom. The spine is in excellent order and remains clean and clearly legible with The Pink Floyd. There is some staining to the flipback on the reverse but nothing serious. On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups'. Overall this is a very acceptable cover with no major flaws at all. No writing on the cover at all which is very common!
The labels are in excellent condition. On most first presses, including this one, the letters K and T are stamped on each side of the spindle hole. These are UK tax stamps and indicate that the tax was paid for this LP. At the bottom of the label it says "Made in Gt. Britain". The Pink Floyd is printed below the tracklisting on each side and of course it has the blue Columbia label! There is also very little spindle wear which suggests the LP has not been played too much.
The vinyl is still kept in its original sleeve, the one with the reddish tinge on cream coloured paper, and is great condition - just has 20V written on top corner.
This is a great example of a first press, one that most discerning fans would be happy with. It is not perfect but for 47 years old it is very good condition. I am very honest with my vinyl grading, perhaps too harsh, but as I say I do think the majority of the faint hairlines will not affect the play of this classic first press.
Side One I would grade as Ex
Side Two is VG+
The laminated cover is VG+/EX-
The labels are Ex+
The original sleeve is Ex (no splits or tears - how rare is that!)
