Description

THE PINK FLOYD

See Emily Play
(Emidisc one-sided acetate)

WOW! - the rarest artefact I have to offer in the series of Pink Floyd-items here on eBay...
In the mid-eighties I got in touch with a person at the recordfair at the Zoo in Amsterdam.
He brought along a small box which contained some... ahum.. interesting Floyd items, which I bought.
Said person claimed his sister used to go out with Nick Mason, and that's how he got them.
This acetate has been part of my private collection ever since, but I have now decided to put it up for sale.
I have played it only twice, once shortly after I obtained it and again earlier this week.
I must admit, I cannot detect any difference between this and the released version, but then again, I wouldn't call myself an expert on Floyd recordings.
However, it does sound incredibly bright and crisp. I can only explain this by the fact that it's cut straight off the master tape, whereas the vinyl version went through the mother/father phases before a record could actually be pressed!
All the more remarkable since acetates are very fragile, but it does say something about the condition.
It's quite simply in stunning condition - excellent at least and for sure.
The Emidisc-label on the A-side has been hand written, containing (from top to bottom):
2:53
SEE EMILY PLAY
#2
31-5-67
45 RP
THE PINK FLOYD
Especially the #2 note on the label is intriguing.
The B-side is blank and has no label.
There is by the way an interesting side story to the recording I made of the first play in the eighties.
I once gave this recording (in good confidence!) to a friend, and sure enough, the recording has turned up on dozens of bootlegs.
If you have one of those boots with early recording sessions, if it contains the acetate version of See Emily Play, than you can bet that this is the source!
I have no doubt whatsoever that this acetate is original and genuine.
Any more questions I'll gladly answer...

ADDED INFORMATION: I will be present at the forthcoming recordfair in De Jaarbeurs Utrecht (22nd and 23rd of november). To save on postage, but more importantly, to avoid any chance of damage, and if the winner or a representative will be in Utrecht as well then it's no problem to hand over the record there. However, payment (or at least a part of it) is required (through Paypal but preferably IBAN-bankdraft if you're in Europe) after the auction has finished. If you're not coming to the record fair, don't worry: I will pack this item in the most safe way possible!
