ORIGINAL UK HARVEST (SHDW 1/2) FIRST PRESSING (November 1969) OF PINK FLOYD'S SUPERB DOUBLE LP SET, "Ummagumma" - ONE LIVE LP OF FOUR LONG TRACKS CONTAINING POSSIBLY THE DEFINITIVE VERSION OF 'Careful With That Axe, Eugene' - WHICH SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, AND A SECOND LP OF FLOYD AT THEIR EXPERIMENTAL FINEST WITH EACH BAND MEMBER GIVEN SPACE TO DEVELOP THEIR OWN PSYCH WORKOUTS

THIS IS A FANTASTIC SET IN BEAUTIFUL, LIGHTLY PLAYED, CAREFULLY HANDLED CONDITION AND IT DELIVERS PRACTICALLY FLAWLESS AUDIO (ON MY SYSTEM - AT A VERY LOUD VOLUME!) WHICH IS RARE, AS THE RECORDS HAVE MANY QUIET, ALMOST SILENT PASSAGES COMMONLY SPOILT BY EXCESSIVE SURFACE NOISE BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST COPIES I HAVE HEARD IN A LONG WHILE - VERY, VERY RECOMMENDED INDEED

AND AS WELL AS BEING A FIRST PRESSING IT'S HOUSED IN THE RARER FULLY LAMINATED VARIANT GARROD & LOFTHOUSE GATEFOLD SLEEVE (see details below)

PRESSED ON TWO QUALITY MID/HEAVYWEIGHT RECORDS WITH THE FIRST HARVEST YELLOW/GREEN LABELS, "The Gramophone Co.." RIM TEXT AND NO EMI BOX
AND WITH THE SIDE FOUR PRINTING ERROR: The label reads "The Gand Vizier's Garden Party"
MATRIX: SHDW 1 A-1 / SHDW 1 B-2 and SHDW 2 A-1 / SHDW 2 B-3
MOTHERS/STAMPERS: 2/MD, 2/MT and 2/MO, 1/P
THE LPS ARE HOUSED IN THE LESS COMMON, FULLY LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE (laminated inside as well as outside) "Printed and made by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd." WHICH IS DATE CODED '6911' (1969, November) - THE BACK PHOTO ON THIS G&L PRINT HAS A GREENER HUE THAN THE EJ DAY COVER AND IT'S BEAUTIFULLY LAMINATED ON THE INSIDE WHERE THE EJ DAY COVER IS MATT, OTHERWISE THEY ARE PRETTY MUCH IDENTICAL AND BOTH SLEEVES HAVE THE '6911' DATE CODE
AND THE SET COMES COMPLETE WITH THE TWO ORIGINAL PLAIN WHITE POLY-LINED INNER SLEEVES WITH UK PATENT NUMBER AND "MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN" PRINTED IN GREY/SILVER TEXT (this release pre-dates the Harvest advertising inner bags which was not issued until mid 1970)

LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with light/moderate spindle traces - this copy has been played but not over-played and it has also been extremely well cared for, evident from the clean playing surfaces and the sensational audio it delivers
VINYL Visual: Both records retain their original deep, glossy sheen with just a few superficial light marks none of which have any audio consequence
VINYL Audio: Pink Floyd's soundscapes cover an amazing dynamic range from the smallest, almost silent details to the loudest crescendos (which makes it difficult to find early pressings which will play without excessive clicks/pops and/or surface noise - but this copy plays beautifully throughout - certainly one of the cleanest I have heard in a while and one of the finest I have ever offered for sale). On playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my records prior to listing and it's always a great pleasure to return to this one) there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps, barely any surface noise and no loud clicks or pops - there is the occasional (not unexpected) very minor light 'tick' but nothing loud or worthy of a special mention. The sound quality is simply sensational - crystal clear, rich, strong and vibrant and both LPs play beautifully to a very, very high standard with great clarity, no distortion, no groove-wear, sound sensational and are very critically graded a strong and confident EXCELLENT+ for audio - fantastic copy and in all honesty I really don't think you will find one which sounds much better - great stuff
SLEEVE: The original fully laminated G&L gatefold cover is also in great condition with virtually no wear to speak of on the edges or spine - where all text is clear and bold. The laminated surfaces have a deep, glass-like gloss with just a little record impression (not ring wear) and due to it being laminated on the inside as well the sleeve still has a very satisfying creak when opened. Graded a strong EXCELLENT+ this is a very fine example of this G&L variant
