Description

Baron Elmo Enterprises proudly presents an impossibly rare treasure from the catalogue of RALPH RECORDS, home to the Residents, Snakefinger, Renaldo & the Loaf and more: Potatoes, a Ralph compilation lp, released in 1987. Subtitled “A Collection of Folk Songs from Ralph Records,” this record pays affectionate tribute to the American musical vernacular, featuring a host of unusual recording acts attempting to define folk music on their own terms. This particular copy of Potatoes is of the super-limited first edition pressing, which came with some very swell bonus goodies. In addition to the lp itself (pressed on marbly white vinyl, one of only 150 copies), you get the following: 1) a bonus 7-inch single (also on white vinyl) called “The Mashed Potatoe” – a megamix collage of the entire Potatoes lp, done by Negativland’s Mark Hosler. 2) a large promotional poster featuring variations on the excellent lp cover art. 3) a heavy duty burlap bag to house all of this loot, with the Potatoes design stitched on the front. And let us not forget the music contained on the lp itself! Here you will find an astonishing assortment of rare goodies from some of the world's greatest musical eccentrics. Some of these artists tackle authentic folk songs in their distictive fashion, others create their own version of folk music from whole cloth, others take sonic excerpts from original folk recordings and manipulate them to create something new. The Residents offer up an unreleased outtake from the Stars and Hank lp, former Devo frontman Mark Mothersbaugh weighs in with a tribute to his home town of Akron, Snakefinger regales us with a creepy tale of cannibalism and Negativland tortures the Galloping Gourmet. The lion’s share of the music, needless to say, is exclusive to this collection… I believe that only the Snakefinger and Maria Marquez tracks appeared elsewhere. This set is truly one of the ultimate Ralph collectables, just waiting for a good home like yours. VERY FEW of these were made, even fewer came with the white vinyl lp... and the Potatoes collection is currently out of print in every format. Don’t miss this chance to own a long gone classic of oddball music! The lp jacket shows slight wear, everything else is in superlative shape. A $5.00 shipping charge will be added to the winning total, more for outside the U.S. We accept PayPal, for those so inclined. No personal checks, please. Thanks for the visit – hope to hear from you soon!
