BEAUTIFUL COPIES OF 2 SEMINAL PUBLIC IMAGE LTD RELEASES - UNPLAYED FROM A JOURNALISTs PRIVATE COLLECTION :
1 - METAL BOX (Metal1/Virgin/Polydor393)
- the 3 vinyl 12" 45s are MINT UNPLAYED - shiny vinyl that has been kept in plastic inners since 1979 in smoke/light free environment. - the dividers (4) are MINT (not yellowed/creased) - as you can see from the pictures, the canister tin has NO dings or scratches. 9/10 cans are brown with oxidization - this one has survived exceptionally well due to storage conditions with only very minor rust spots apparent. The (faint & pre-oxidization) finger grease stains can possibly be lifted with household metal cleaner that would get the VG+ tin back to a NM. - the 'METAL 1' sticker on back is clean and there is the florescent 'POL393' import sticker with the Paris Polydor address who handled Virgin for France at the time. - the one sheet A5 photocopy insert is not included - the owner is sure that it was never present when received (as was no 'PILPILPILPILPIL' logo scotch tape used to seal some of the UK versions). This is apparently common on the 10000 copies reserved for export.
The item will be mailed with the dividers at the bottom of the can and the vinyl in their protective plastic covering as not to incur any damage to either during transport. Basically you will be hard pressed to find a nicer copy !
2 - PUBLIC IMAGE b/w THE COWBOY SONG (Virgin 2097 974)
- vinyl is MINT/UNPLAYED - bespoke cover (french release only) features group photo (shot by Dennis Morris on Lydon's roof in Gunter Grove, London) - cover has cut corner (neat) standard to all french promo 45s given to journalists at the time. There is slight ring wear to back but no tears/creasing with clean opening & sharp corners
An excellent condition 'Newspaper sleeve' UK version is already hard to find but the France-only picture cover of this release is the holy grail of PIL's seminal debut output.
Will be packed/mailed securely inside Metal Box (where it has lived for the last 37 years !)
