Description

Fed up trying to snag a £500 solid Blue 1st issue of DSOTM? Well folks - there is another way to get some of that quality early analogue audio without breaking the bank. Why not opt for a decent playing copy from Spring '74? Because these '74 copies, like this example, carrying the A3/B3 matrix are just one iteration from those famous solid blue copies. How can we be sure it's from Spring -74? Well, EMI changed the perimeter text on all their labels in Spring 74 - from Gramophone to EMI. When they came to DSOTM the typesetters cocked up the labels - and left TWO mentions of 'Made in Great Britain'. Clearly an error - and totally unnecessary. This error is very useful for dating these early copies [along with that matrix A3/B3]. The vinyl comes housed in an early cover with the left hand panel glued shut forming a nice solid front panel. We also have an original inner sleeve with blue text, but NO posters or stickers.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In marvellous condition and has seen just light use by a careful owner. I can't make out more than a couple of the finest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with deviation in a couple of spots on side 2. For starters - those heartbeats at the start of side 1 play totally clean....which is very appealing. Side 1 plays absolutely spot on....I've not heard much better [to be frank]. Very clean. Side 2 has just seen slightly more use - I'd argue. Occasionally you might witness some light background for instance in the quieter moments of 'Us And Them'. Nothing unpleasant. It just won't play fully clean as it does in the other passages. That's all. Overall a really very fine rendition from this early and original copy.
Cover (Vg+) First thing to mention is that early covers should have that left panel glued shut and have been printed on heavy card stock. Consequently this example has the look and feel of a substantial cover [not the later flimsy crap]. Sticker fully intact and unpeeled top right. Just below said sticker is some left over sticker reside [you should be able to make it out in the photos. Surfaces front and back are pretty clean - not perfect but very decent. You might make out a couple of minor nicks and an indentation [nothing unsightly]. The interior looks superb no issues at all. A bit of edge wear in places - but it seems to have been mostly inked in in back [very carefully and sympathetically]. The spine is looking in better than average constitution with little wear. Very nice solid opening panel and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing no splits.
