THE PINK FLOYD - 'PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN'
This early 1st UK MONO pressing of Pink Floyd's astonishing debut LP dates from its initial August 1967 release.

It is on the black & blue Columbia label: SX 6157

Both labels include the 'Sold in UK..' text and the 'KT' purchase tax code is present in the centre of the side 1 label.

Matrix numbers: XAX 3419-2 & XAX 3420-1

Stamper codes: 1/M & 1/G (the earliest possible combination on side 2)

Vinyl weight: 138g

Housed within a front laminated, tri-flipback 'Ernest J. Day' printed mono cover WITHOUT the 'File Under...' text on the upper flipback.

Complete with its original black & white EMI advertising inner-sleeve.

A really clean & unworn pair with just a small number of barely visible spindle trails mostly around the side 2 centre hole, with just a handful around 1.

Visual: EXCELLENT

Both playing surfaces are extremely clean and retain all of their 'as new' deep-gloss shine, with no dull areas or 'groove-whitening' caused by overplay on poor equipment. The only noticeable signs of wear in strong daylight are three or four light, non-feelable fingernail scuff lines on side 1, but little of any note on side 1 and nothing I would call a scratch anywhere. Close examination some harmless wispy paper-type hairlines consistent with sleeve removal but no further blemishes or wear. Both sides of this well cared for disc lie 100% flat on the turntable when playing.

Sound Quality: EXCELLENT

Most copies of this pressing were overplayed and are hard to find in an unworn state. However, this great sounding copy has clearly received just a small amount of careful play on good quality equipment and happily the sound quality throughout is free from any traces of groove/playwear distortion. The only significant audible distractions I detected during my single careful play-check were two light ticks on the introduction to 'Astronomy Dominé' and some light crackle on the introduction to 'Matilda Mother'. Apart from that and a trace of normal vinyl background in some of the quieter passages, there really is little else to fault which will not disappoint.

Cover: EXCELLENT

A superb clean & unblemished example which retains a clean-gloss front laminate which bears a handful of small 'thumbnails' towards the front opening edge & few small edge wrinkles, but no heavy creasing or any other significant signs of wear.

All corners are free from any bumps or bruising and show just tiny rubs to the extremities of the right two. The exposed and unprotected rear panel is very clean with just a few light scuffs above the track-listing but is otherwise free from any further blemishes or wear.

All flipbacks are undamaged & fully intact.

The spine is clean and white with full lamination and wording.

Inner-sleeve: EXCELLENT

Clean & flat with a few light storage wrinkles but no tears, writing or missing paper.
