Description

For sale is a copy of Pink Floyd’s The Piper at the Gates of Dawn on vinyl. This is an original first US mono pressing from Tower Records in 1967. This version is incredibly rare and a true collector’s item. No Pink Floyd collector would pass up the opportunity to own this landmark album.

The sleeve is in fantastic shape, considering its age. The corners have some wear and slight fraying. There’s some minimal crease wear on the top and bottom of the cover. The spine has a little creasing, but is fully intact. There are no splits on any of the three sides.

The back has a fair bit of age discoloration and some staining. The top has “Promotional Records” stamped. The bottom right has a tiny “6”, indicating its Los Angeles printing.

The inner sleeve may or may not be original, I’m not entirely certain. It’s pretty yellowed with some creasing. The record itself has quite a few light, cosmetic scratches and a couple deeper ones. The usual scuffs as well from a record this age. The labels have some paint and ring wear, including some wear by the spindle hole.

The labels have all the hallmarks of an LA Rainbo pressing- dark orange color and the first track on side A is above the spindle hole. The matrix deadwax etchings read:

Side A: T-1-5093 S-1569

Side B: T-2-5093 S-1570

I wouldn’t feel comfortable grading it myself, it’s too subjective. I’d rather let the pictures stand on their own. I also don’t have a suitable turntable to really test it on, but the the scratches would probably indicate some crackle and possibly a skip or two. Feel free to contact me with any further questions or for additional pictures- I’d be glad to. Thanks and happy bidding!
