Visual grading

Wow this is one beautiful looking vinyl!  With only one or two plays at most there is only one mega faint spindle trace on each label, so small you can barely see them!  The vinyl has retained an immaculate, pristine quality that is so rarely seen on a first pressing.  I have looked under various lights and I cannot see any hairlines and obviously there are no scratches to be seen.  This has been incredibly well preserved by its previous owner and is a final upgrade museum piece for certain.  Quite possibly this is 'cleanest' 1/2 first press vinyl I have seen (or heard) and I've seen a lot!

Play grading  

'We Will Rock You' plays with can only be described as Mint quality.  The power and depth of the recording is so strong and there is no interference whatsoever.  A stunning start to S1.  The intro on 'We Are The Champions' has no 'background' although there is one light click about 15 seconds in.  Thereafter the clarity is exceptional aside from a couple of minor dust ticks the audio plays to a 'high end' standard.  'Sheer Heart Attack' has no interference and 'rocks out' loud and true with no distortion.  The power is immense and again this is Mint in every way.  Of course 'All Dead All Dead' is more of test of the vinyl and I am pleased to say it passes with flying colours.  This quiet track plays with sublime clarity and there is no static or crackle to be heard.  There are a couple of faint clicks but overall this track plays with wonderful depth and warmth.  'Spread Your Wings' does not disappoint either.  The playback was quite simply immaculate and there was no interference of any kind.  I often find there is some distortion on this track but not on this version!  The clarity is first class and even the long fade plays with perfect precision.  'Fight From The Inside' ends the side with the same level of audio and again not one single click or pop.  There is perhaps just a minimal amount of distortion on the end section but that is always the case on this track.  It still plays with superior audio that would be nigh on impossible to improve upon.

The quiet intro on 'Get Down Make Love' plays with supreme clarity, practically 'as new' if I'm honest.  Stunning...in a word!  It continues in the same fashion and this is without doubt the most impressive first pressing version I have heard in a long time.  With next to no static this is as close to audio perfection as you will find and the instrumental section is just so good.  Mint- throughout without question.  'Sleeping On The Sidewalk' is of the same fantastic standard and plays 'as new' from the very first groove.  Often underrated this little gem has such a strong deep bass and the clarity could not be any better.  Wow what an immaculate version!  'Who Needs You' is equal to that and thus far the audio on this side is of a superlative standard and to think this is a first pressing!  Once again there is no 'background' which is very impressive for this relatively quiet track.  The classic 'It's Late' is stunning from start to finish.  For fear of being repetitive the clarity and power is immense and there is no distortion on the top end at all.  I cannot adequately put into words just how good this sounds, it is 100% breathtaking!  The mid guitar section is so powerful and is 'as new'.  This track is Mint from start to finish - Mint is not a grading I use regularly but where it is deserved I will.  'My Melancholy Blues' so often plays with some interference but aside from a handful of mega light dust ticks this version is of Near Mint quality but to be honest the vast majority plays better than that!  There are no clicks or pops and the clarity is so impressive.  Apart from a hint of static on the fade out I have not heard this track play so cleanly in a long time.  A superb end to a superb first pressing.

In summary this 1/2 first pressing plays with 'high end' audio and the clarity and sonic quality is first class.  Yes there are a couple of light clicks on S1 but overall the audio is mega impressive throughout.  With a lovely gatefold and a stunning original lyric inner this would add to any 'high end' first press collection.

The Gatefold

The cover has been extremely well preserved and has hardly any shelf wear, it is so clean.  The edges are in near perfect condition with only one small rub mark on the left edge.  The wide spine is in superb shape with no wear and only a minimal amount of corner wear.  The other corners remain in great shape with only absolute minimal wear again.  The opening edge has no obvious handling wear, just a couple of small rubs that is all.  The front cover has no marking and is very clean indeed, there is just one very small crease near the top edge.  The back cover has no marking whatsoever and the inside of the gatefold is in pristine condition again.  A great example of this iconic cover.

The Lyric inner

This has the four rounded corners as per the first pressings and has no splits!  A real rarity!  There is just one very small mark on S1 but aside from that this is in near perfect condition with no creasing or ringwear either.  Incredible really when you think it is made of paper.  The record must have always been stored in a separate inner for certain.

The labels

The original EMI labels are 'as new' with only one miniscule spindle line on the S2 label.  They don't come cleaner than this!  There is no marking or writing, they are in 100% Mint condition!
