You're not dreaming, this is an AUTHORIZED one time shot reproduction of an artwork intended for Rico's second release, crafted back in 1977, to follow the Man of Wareika masterpiece LP. Chris Blackwell never went forward on this one.
Tony Wright, Island records Art Director way back then, and illustrator for this splendid work, recalls Rico as a great man. The second album never came, although it is suspected it could have been created for the Rico Man of Wareika DUB which never saw a proper release until recently (and without any proper artwork). Tony is a fantastic artist and spiritual person, and I was blessed to meet him a few years back (time flies). He authorized this sale, and winner will get a proof if desired.
About the work:
Selassie I is sitting on his throne, with Rico at the center stage playing his trombone in a divine atmosphere, under a winged Selassie and flying doves. The execution is splendid and in true rasta spirit.
The printed canvas is mount boarded on wood, perfectly stretched, and measures 110 cm x 110 cm. It is reproduced from the original. Please note the Man From Wareika LP is not included, but placed to provide scale/size impression.
The winner also gets a high quality 1 pager copy of the background and insights of this work and Rico, written & signed by Tony Wright.
