From my own personal collection I am pleased to offer an exceptional example of the second hits compilation album by THE ROLLING STONES titled “THROUGH THE PAST DARKLY”, Catalogue Number SKL 5019. This is an ORIGINAL 1969 UK STEREO 1st PRESSING on the BLUE UNBOXED DECCA RECORD LABEL, with a stunning 1st issue GARROD & LOFTHOUSE OCTAGONAL LAMINATED GATEFOLD SLEEVE. Complete with the correct octagonal blue & white Decca credits inner sleeve. [The sleeve is the earliest possible design with the mono/stereo cut-out peephole in the back top right corner. The matrix numbers are XZAL-9067.P-1W and XZAL-9068.P-2W, making this a very early stereo pressing].
The sleeve is in EX+ condition with barely any wear and only a couple of very minor laminate creases. The front and back covers are unmarked and the opening gatefold spread is pristine. There is a touch of laminate lift adjacent to the spine on the front cover – but this is minimal. The spine is square and solid with perfect text. Overall this is a beautiful sleeve which will be very difficult to improve upon.
The top quality Decca record is in EX+ condition. It’s a solid 140g pressing which sits perfectly flat on the turntable. The deep blue Decca labels are like new with only a few short spindle traces each side and virtually no wear to the spindle hole. It is clear that the record has only received a few careful plays. Both sides play MINT- throughout with crystal clear audio and no discernable deterioration in sound quality. Lead-in and linking grooves play with near silence and there is barely any unwanted surface sound at all. I noticed only 4 lightish ticks throughout the whole album (just into Track 5 of Side 1). I think that it will be almost impossible to find another 1st press stereo copy which plays to such a high standard.
The fragile octagonal paper inner sleeve is in unmarked EX+ condition. There are no splits or tears and only a few minor creases.
Overall this is an exceptional 1st press stereo copy which will grace any record collection.
GRADINGS
The records that I offer for sale have been critically play-graded, at loud volume, on a Rega P5 turntable fitted with an Elys 2 cartridge. I will only sell records that play to a high standard. My gradings are strict and in accordance with the following descriptions:
· MINT- Record is superb, almost like new, with just a few sleeve removal type surface marks and no deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve is near perfect in all respects.
· EX Record is a top quality example, with just a few very light surface marks which do not sound, and barely any discernable deterioration in sound quality. Sleeve has slight wear and/or creasing.
· VG Record has some visual surface marks, but still plays to a high standard without any major deterioration in sound quality – just a few clicks or light surface sound in places. Sleeve has normal wear and tear without any major defects but is still very presentable.
