PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Near 30 years ago original Russian release which was an exclusive issue to that country at the time, collectors around the globe went mad desperate to obtain a copy. Finally due to the demand, copies were distributed as Russian exports - here is one of those copies.
Also known as The Russian Album, Choba B CCCP was the seventh solo studio album by Paul McCartney. It was initially released just in the Soviet Union.
The album was a collection of Rock & Roll from the sixties - anyone remembering McCartney's frantic "I'm Down" will understand Paul's idea for this record. rock 'n' roll.
The tracks were recorded in the wake of the lukewarm reception to, McCartney's mid 80's "Press To Play" album which attempted to bring a more contemporary sound to his recordings. With sales low and chart success proving elusive, McCartney decided to go back to his roots and rock-out.
In 1987 McCartney held a series of informal Friday night rock 'n' roll jam sessions were held in a studio in the East End of London with session musicians.
Impressed with the results, McCartney decided to record some of the songs at his Hog Hill Mill studio in East Sussex. The tracks were recorded over two days in July 1987, 11 of which found their way onto "Choba B CCCP."
There was no grand plan to release the rock & roll album, and the recordings were left for almost a year before it was decided what to do with them but leaked demos received positive responses from critics and fans.
Since Western rock music was banned by the Soviet state, music lovers there had for many years been forced to make do with illegal bootlegs, low quality copies or smuggled imports, McCartney wished to give his fans there something that was unavailable elsewhere, and with his manager Richard Ogden discussed the idea of issuing a record.
Ogden had 50 copies of an album pressed, featuring some of the July 1987 recordings, with artwork designed to look like a Russian bootleg. He gave the LPs to McCartney as a Christmas present that year, and they were distributed to friends and family.
Invigorated by the warm reactions, McCartney asked Ogden to contact the Soviet Union's only record label, Melodiya, to see if the album could be properly released there.
The title is Russian for "Back In The USSR", the 1968 song by The Beatles on the White Album. Although the title should be written in Cyrillic script, it is commonly converted to Latin letters as Choba B CCCP. It should be pronounced "snova vee ess-ess-ess-er".
The cover was designed by Michael Ross. The photograph of McCartney was taken by his wife Linda and had previously appeared inside the gatefold of their 1971 album Ram.
