An unusual item, definitely very scarce - a 16 page (counting the inside covers) booklet on Thomas Edison and the invention of the phonograph, with illustrations, photographs and drawings, and also (obviously) text. Actually Edison invented the cylinder player while Emile Berliner initiated the transition from phonograph cylinders to gramophone records. In any case, the real gem of this item is the 2-SIDED FLEXI-DISC, which has 6 tracks on side 1, and 3 tracks on side 2. The tracks on side 1 are: 1. Edison reciting "Mary Had a Little Lamb" (the first recording of human speech); 2. Sir Henry M. Stanley greeting the President of the United States (circa 1890-92); 3. P. T. Barnum - Greeting to the World in 1890: 4. William Jennings Bryan "Cross of Gold" speech in 1896; 5. Theodore Roosevelt - Address to You Progressives (1912); 6. Thomas Alva Edison - "The Future of Electricity" (1908). The tracks on side 2 are: 1. William Howard Taft - "The Rights to Labor"; 2. Thomas Alva Edison - "Let Us Not Forget" (1919); Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton - "The British Antarctic Expedition of 1907" (1910).
The flexi-disc has not been removed from the booklet and therefore is extremely unlikely that it was ever played. The booklet is 8" x 8 1/8" with only some spine wear. Great for Edison collectors.
