Description

Lonely Girl b/w Lonely Girl Part 2 by Eric Mercury and the Soul Searchers on Sac 0001.  Extremely-rare and great Northern soul single (if you haven't heard it, check it out on Soulclub. org or on the first volume of For Millionaires Only.)  Written by Ivy Hunter and Mickey Stevenson, and published by Jobete, it was recorded for Motown by Brenda Holloway but never released.  But it's hard to imagine anyone at Motown could have pulled off a better version than this gutsy, intense take on it by Mercury.  Note that Part 2 is not just the backing track, but a different instrumental take, and does include vocals during the last half of the song.  To my knowledge, though Part 2 has been spun in clubs, it has never been comped.  Only a handful of copies of this 45 are known, and I've never seen one on ebay.

The record is in very strong VG shape, with full shine and a few light scratches and marks.  There's a bit of noise in the dead wax and at the fade out, but both songs play magnificently, with no notable pops, crackles, or intrusive noises.  An outstanding copy of one of soul's greatest rarities.

(I have no idea why the pictures look so bad.  I took clear, beautiful shots of both labels, but when ebay got a hold of them, they turned them to mud.  I'll try resubmitting, but if they continue to look shoddy and you want to see clean scans of the labels, e-mail me and I'll send them along.)

GRADING
M-
A flawless or nearly flawless record that appears to have seen little or no play.
VG+  Full gloss, a few light marks.  A very, very attractive record that has seen limited play and has been well cared for.
VG   More marks and scratches, but still a nice record.  Scratches may be fairly numerous, but will be light.
VG-  Lots of marks and scratches but no gouges or major problems.  Not a beautiful record, but still serviceable, not junk.
G+ and G  Heavy wear and marks, plays through okay.
