Description
Rock and Religion was a radio show that aired in the late 70s. It was made in Sacramento, CA. They explored everything from the Beatles to Drug culture and did it with an even approach, toning down the 'Fire and Brimstone' condemnations and turning toward a desire for serious inquiry into the effects of rock culture on modern Christianity and society at large. They released about 75 LPs over a few years, each one with two shows, or sometimes a double length special, usually hosted by Tom McKenzie or Mary Neely.
This is one of the rarest shows, RR-49 which deals with Punk Rock, and RR-50 which explores the history of 'Love Songs'
I don't know if the producers were able to shell out for clearance to use these songs and interviews, or if they just let it ride in the hopes that the Lord would protect them.
This LP comes with cue sheets for both shows, the punk rock sheet has some creasing.
The LP sleeve is generic for the series, with a sticker on the front indicating the 2 shows. Good shape.
The LP has a couple very light sleeve scuffs, and looks near mint.
The Punk side includes a couple of Sex Pistols songs, an Ian Dury cut, a Damned cut, a Rolling Stones cut, and quotes from Joe Strummer and Paul Simenon of The Clash, Johnny Rotten / Lydon, Brian James of The Damned, and Hugh Cornwell of The Stranglers (see cue sheet pics)
The Love Songs side includes many classic songs including several Beatles cuts, plus some interview snippets with Christian artist Randy Stonehill (see cue sheet pics)
An interesting, rare LP, taking on a subject like 'Punk Rock' back when it was still in it's relative infancy, especially in the USA.
