We are offering a rare and original copy of Roland Kirk's "Triple Threat" on King Records, catalog number 539. This is the rare "Crownless" edition.

This is a no reserve auction...

Triple Threat is the debut album by jazz multi-instrumentalist Roland Kirk originally released on the King label in 1956.

This is the original 1st and rarest pressing!
This original album received limited distribution.

The album only became widely known after it was re-released a few years prior to Kirk's death.

The Re-released LPs were on the "Bethlehem label" as “Third Dimension” and on the Affinity label as “Early Roots”.

It features performances by Kirk with James Madison, Carl Pruitt and Henry Duncan recorded in New York City in 1956.

The album features the first recorded examples of Kirk's trademark of playing multiple wind instruments simultaneously, as well as two tracks "Stormy Weather" and "The Nearness of You" on which he overdubbed manzello and tenor saxophones.

Kirk would later state that the album "was about the third over-dubbed record in black classic-jazz music".

Cover:
NO splits (very rare and almost impossible to find without),
NO tears,
NO stains,
only a hint of ring wear,
slight yellowing on the back cover from age (59 years old),

The original record shop price is written on the back cover upper left in pencil 3.98 marked down to 2.98 (could be easily be erased)

Very minor rubbing along the top and bottom seams as well as the spine. no splits!
Over all I would rate this conservatively VG+ or 8.75 to a 9

Play graded, (on my Linn Sonder LP12, with a Shure cartridge at 1.5 grams) VG- does NOT skip, but does have surface noise thoughout.
