Sons (The Sons Of Champlin): "Minus Seeds And Stems" 1972, USA/No label CFS-2126. Disc looks strong VG+ on side 1, plays M-. The label on this side has lost some color around the perimeter, see pic. Disc side two looks VG with lots of hairlines, this side has some scattered ticks. The cover has ringwear and the seams are starting to crack apart, a sticker was removed from the bottom of the spine that pulled the white paper off the brown chipboard (see pic), and a small piece of the front slick is also missing from the lower right corner... it's actually quite presentable in person, this cover gets a Good grade overall. RARE ORIGINAL private LP by the Sons Of Champlin pressed up by the band themselves at the Custom Fidelity plant (Mary Butterworth, Kusudo & Worth, Steve Mann's debut, etc.). I asked Tim Cain about this LP some years ago and he said the Sons were disappointed with how their studio LPs didn't reflect the energy of their live performances, and when they split with Capitol they assembled this release themselves from their collection of live tapes and sold it locally. It's a wild ride, lots of uptempo jamming with insane lead guitar, it's definitely my favorite release of theirs! The original apparently did not have any insert, only the repressing did. On telling the original from the repressing: The trail-off on the reissue contains the number L-41076. The original disc does not have this number. The reissue cover is printed direct-to-board so it's white inside the pocket. The original cover has a chipboard center with outer slicks, so it's tan/light brown inside the pocket. This is without doubt one of the toughest Bay Area records to dig up! Not as rare as the Country Weather or Tripsichord demo discs, but rarer than Ofoedian Den or the Frumious Bandersnatch EP. I ship all records in strong cardboard mailers with cardboard flats added to increase stability. The discs are always removed from the jackets to prevent seam splits, and all albums are dressed in plastic sleeves for travel. Please be aware that these supplies are expensive to purchase and represent a small portion of my shipping charges. I pack/ship one day per week, usually it is Friday.
