NOTES: “I Walk The Line” was the first hit for Johnny Cash but it wasn’t the A side of this record. The A side was “Get Rhythm”. “I Walk the Line" was written by Johnny and recorded in 1956. It was performed with the help of Marshall Grant and Luther Perkins, two mechanics that his brother introduced him to following his discharge from the Air Force. Cash and his wife, Vivian, were living in Memphis, Tennessee, at the time. Cash became the front man for the group and precipitated the introduction of the group to Sam Phillips of Sun Records. In 1955 they began recording under the Sun label. After three attempts with moderate chart ratings, "I Walk the Line" became the first number one Billboard hit for the group. The single remained on the record charts for over 43 weeks, and sold over 2 million copies.

RECORD CONDITION: This record was found in a New England attic and was quite dusty. I have cleaned it twice with a non-abrasive disc-washer fluid but it will probably need some more cleaning. After much of the dirt was removed from the grooves, I played this record and it still has good sound for a 56 year old recording. It has been played and there is some background noise and a few pops but no major skips on my turntable. The surface shows a few scuffs but no major scratches, cracks, chips or breaks. Labels are quite clean. This is an original SUN record, not a re-issue or reproduction. Inscribed numbers and letters in the run-over area of B side read “SUN, 45-U-191, PP”
