One of the most brillant and daring albums of Dutch progressive rock and the major work of Supersister. For their last album they assembled a great line up, consisting of master mind and band genius Robert-Jan Stips on keyboards, bass player Ron van Eck, drummer Herman van Boeijen & jazz-ace Charley Mariano on saxes and similar instruments. Iskander is a concept album about the life and times of Alexander the Great. The music on the album isn't easily accessible and it misses the familiar sense of humor, so well known from their previous albums. I think, that just because that absence of this often too adolescent "humor" the "Iskander" sounds far more mature than the other albums. The playing is impeccable and the compositions and arrangements are perfect. The music on "Iskander" ranges from complete Crimsonian chaos in "The Battle" to soft and gentle songs like "Roxane" & "Looking Back" with some fine flute parts to enjoy. The flute part in "Looking Back" is still played by the band's previous flute player Sacha van Geest. The album even contains a track that was released as a single "Bagoas", but that one didn't really reach the charts, although the band could be seen playing it in several rock shows. The band is classified as Canterbury, but I think they sound different. I can advise anyone who wants to discover the Dutch masters of progressive rock and who isn't afraid of a solid dose of experimental jazz added, to try out this great album. I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps, pops or skips. There is NO background noise at all!! Very remarkable for this 1973 vinyl!!! The heavy vinyl with high groovewalls provides a fantastic audio experience with channelling not equalled by the later CD version. I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing Rotel amp and B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!!
SO HARD TO FIND THIS SUPERSISTER ALBUM IN THIS FANTASTIC CONDITION THIS WILL BE AN UPGRADE FOR MOST SERIOUS COLLECTORS FOR ITS VINYL. IT IS VERY HARD THESE DAYS TO STILL FIND THIS GEM IN THIS SMASHING CONDITION. IT WILL BE A LONG TIME BEFORE THIS TURNS UP AGAIN IN THIS SPLENDID CONDITION WITH AGAIN MORE TAKERS THAN EVER BEFORE. THIS IS AN EXCELLENT INVESTMENT PIECE.
Vinyl: EX++. I'm very happy to be able to present this Irish gem in this wonderful condition. Barely played. The audio is simply sublime played on my Technics deck with Linn Sondek cartridge and through my rotel amp and B&W speakers. This really heavy vinyl sounds out of this world, a majestic album that went largely unnoticed at the time. Unbelievably it has NO hairlines or marks at all!! NO spider traces near the spindle. The audio has beautiful separation and there is no background noise. I played this through in full and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was even tempted to keep this as it will be nearly impossible to find this again, it is indeed mega rare now in this kind of condition. The labels have no spindle traces at all. Needless to say NO jumps, clicks or ticks. The best you will find by miles. This will be a fantastic upgrade for most long time collectors!!
Sleeve: VG+ to EX. Nice gatefold sleeve with just one small bottom corner crease, otherwise this has been well looked after . Lovely colours and no writing, it has an original Dutch music shop sticker to the rear and actually adding to the vintage of this phenomenal LP. The sleeve is dead straight and has always been kept straight up in a purpose built LP cabinet for decades. Light edge wear only and a spine which is 100% legible with just light wear. A repaired top seam split which is barely visible. I have only ever come across this album once before in over 25 years, it is very scarce indeed. The album still has its original inner lyric sheet which is in excellent condition.
This is a unique investment opportunity!!! The next prog album to go completely through the roof. Finding this album in any condition at all is nearly impossible so late in the day. Get this while you still can. This value of the album is only going to go one way ... up and up ... until it will be totally unavailable at all for a reasonable price.
Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly! PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST, if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one! I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem! This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy! Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 * rating is effectively detrimental to a seller's rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all. I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again. Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem. Thanks again!!
This an excellent investment opportunity!!! Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
