Syd Barrett - The Madcap Laughs
Roger Keith “Syd” Barrett (6 January 1946 - 7 July 2006) was an English singer, songwriter, guitarist, and artist. He is most remembered as a founding member of Pink Floyd. He was active as a rock musician for about seven years before going into a self-imposed seclusion that lasted over thirty years and ended with his death in 2006. Starting in 1964, the band that would become Pink Floyd underwent various line-up and name changes such as “The Abdabs”, “The Screaming Abdabs”, “Sigma 6” and “The Meggadeaths”. In 1965, Syd Barrett joined them as “The Tea Set”, and when they found themselves playing a concert with a band of the same name, Syd came up with the name “The Pink Floyd Sound” (later “The Pink Floyd”). He devised the name “Pink Floyd” from the first names of Pink Anderson and Floyd Council whom he had read about in a sleeve note by Paul Oliver for a 1962 Blind Boy Fuller LP. The Madcap Laughs was his first solo album released in January 1970 and features Syd Barrett (guitar and vocals); David Gilmour (bass and guitar); Roger Waters (bass); Hugh Hopper (bass on first side tracks 2 and 3 - from Soft Machine); Mike Ratledge (keyboards on first side tracks 2 and 3 - from Soft Machine); Vic Seywell (horn); Jerry Shirley (drums); John Wilson (drums) and Robert Wyatt - (drums on first side tracks 2 and 3 - from Soft Machine). I believe this to be one of the earliest possible pressings with no EMI logo on the labels, the “G” stamper and “1” mother.

Released in 1970. UK pressing. Stereo.
Condition: (as Record Collector's grading system. If I see a mark it will be mentioned however light/small, apart from the usual very light paper scuffs/marks - usually caused by record being removed from the inner sleeve, which appear on nearly all old records and which are only visible under strong light)
Vinyl side 1: excellent (two light scrape marks at the very beginning of track one that do not affect the audio in any way).
Vinyl side 2: excellent (unmarked vinyl).
Cover (outer laminated, gatefold): very good (corner wear and slight light edge wear, some laminate creasing especially at the spine edge and general aging - see photos).
Comes with the original “Harvest” inner sleeve - see photo.
The record plays with no jumps, skips or clicks and minimal crackle.
I have tried to give my honest opinion as to the condition. I will give a complete refund to the buyer if they are not happy with the record.

RECORD COLLECTOR GRADING SYSTEM:
MINT: I very rarely use the mint grade. Only records that are still sealed or records that even under the strongest of lights are completely unmarked. Also covers that are unmarked/uncreased in any way and still look brand new.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is no lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.
