Sylvia Rexach canta a Sylvia Rexach vinyl LP is new, never used, still in its original plastic wrap. It's in excellent condition and photographed from all sides. The music is of an "impromptu" 1958 recording of Rexach singing her compositions with guitarist Rafael "Tutti" Umpierre. The album was cut in the mid 1960's by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture, Popular Music category. BIO: Sylvia Rexach (1922-1961) was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Her father was a pharmacist father and her mother was a poet and homemaker. She wrote her first ballad at age 14 when she was at Central High School, played the guitar, piano and saxophone. She began studying law at the University of Puerto Rico's Rio Piedras campus, but left after a year to enlist in the WAACs at the outbreak of World War II. She married William Riley at age 23 and had three children. When they divorced, she returned to San Juan and wrote comic radio scripts, performed on radio, television and on stage in Puerto Rico and New York. She also founded an all-female trio called Las Damiselas, and later Las Golondrinas. Suffering from alcoholism and stomach cancer, she died at age 39.
