The record we are offering here is an original Beatles Butcher Cover album. This is what is known as the “second state” pressing, with the replacement cover art pasted over the original butcher block cover on the front. The record itself is an original Mono release.
COVER: Overall this cover is in nice shape, especially when compared to many other second state covers we have seen over the years. There is no seam splitting on the top or bottom and the spine shows some areas where the paper is chipping away from the jacket.
The only areas on the front that look like they were attempted to peel are a 2 1/2 inch by 1 inch spot in the bottom right corner and a 2 1/4 inch by 1 inch spot near the left edge. These two areas look like the paper was re-glued onto the cover and this looks pretty good. There are a few scratches on the front cover which did not penetrate through all the way down to the jacket and a modern amount of soiling here and there. There is only a bit of light surface wear and the color is quite good.
The back of the jacket shows some surface tearing and glue residue near the outer perimeter, where it looks like somebody had this cover attached to something at one time. There are also a couple of small spots near the center of the back cover with small surface tears. The rest of the back is in nice shape with just a bit of light ring wear and light surface wear.
VINYL: This record was carefully cleaned on a VPI machine and has a beautiful glossy luster. The vinyl does show some areas that look like they had some light heat exposure and there is some light warping, but nothing major. There is a small amount of light surface scratching but nothing close to being able to be felt on the grooves. We listened to the entire LP and it played through for us fine. The sound was enjoyable although the needle swayed slightly to the left and right as the record was spinning, mostly on the first couple of songs on each side. The record labels are exceptionally clean and have hardly any wear.

Return Policy
