You broke my heart
'Cause I couldn't dance
You didn't even want me around
And now I'm back, to let you know
I can really shake 'em down
Do you love me? (I can really move)
Do you love me? (I'm in the groove)
Ah do you love? (Do you love me)
Now that I can dance (dance)
Watch me now, oh (work, work)
Ah, work it all baby (work, work)
Well, you're drivin' me crazy (work, work)
With a little bit of soul now (work)
I can mash-potatoe (I can mash-potatoe)
And I can do the twist (I can do the twist)
Now tell me baby (tell me baby)
Mmm, do you like it like this (do you like it like this)
Tell me (tell me)
Tell me
Do you love me? (Do you love me)

THIS IS THE ORIGINAL FIRST 1962 PRESSING ON THE GORDY PURPLE LABEL WITH SILVER PRINT # GORDY-901. BELL SOUND IS STAMPED INTO BOTH SIDES OD THE DEAD WAX AS WELL AS THE NUMBER 1 WHICH IS GENERALLY REGARDED AS A TRUE 1ST PRESSING.
VISUALLY, THE 49 YEAR OLD THICK VINYL DISC IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION! I HAVE EXAMINED THIS UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT AND SEE THAT THE PLATTER HAS RETAINED MUCH OF ITS DEEP RICH LUSTER...PLENTY OF SHINE HERE! I DO SEE SOME EXTREMELY LIGHT SCUFFS/HAIRLINES (MOSTLY OF THE SWIRLY VARIETY). NONE OF WHICH ARE FEEL-ABLE, NOR DO THEY EFFECT THE INCREDIBLE LISTENING EXPERIENCE!
BASED ON THE ABOVE IMPERFECTIONS I FEEL THE VINYL GRADES AS EX
THE COVER PRESENTS VERY NICELY. THERE IS NO WRITING OR STICKERS ANYWHERE. THE SPINE IS VERY STRONG, READABLE AND TIGHT! A PORTION OF THE SEAMS HAVE BEEN NICELY REPAIRED WITH CLEAR TAPE BY A PREVIOUS OWNER TO PROTECT THE VALUABLE PLATTER. THERE IS EVIDENCE OF A STICKER PEEL THAT WAS TOUCHED UP TOP RIGHT AS WELL AS A SMALL SPOT OF YELLOW AND ALONG THE SEAMS. THE LINER NOTES WERE EXTREMELY INFORMATIVE AND PERFECTLY READABLE & CLEAN! THERE IS A SMALL STICKER PEEL UPPER LEFT REVERSE SIDE. THERE IS VERY LITTLE IF ANY, EVIDENCE OF RING/SHELF WEAR VISIBLE TO EITHER SIDE! THERE ARE SOME MINOR DINGS/CREASES AS SHOWN.
BASED ON THE ABOVE IMPERFECTIONS I FEEL THAT THE COVER GRADES A EX- AND PRESENTS VERY WELL!
I HAVE PLAY GRADED THIS AND THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE WAS INCREDIBLE! THERE WAS SOME EXTREMELY MINOR NOISE UNDERNEATH THE MUSIC HERE AND THERE BUT CERTAINLY NOTHING I WOULD SAY WAS DISTRACTING IN ANY WAY! YOU REALLY HAD TO LISTEN FOR IT. THERE WERE NO DISTRACTING SKIPS, STICKS, POPS, HISSES, CLICKS, TICKS OR BURPS!
I GRADE THE LISTENING NRMT- !
OVERALL THIS CLASSIC LP GRADES AS EX!
Written and produced by Motown CEO Berry Gordy, Jr., "Do You Love Me?" was the Contours' only Top 40 single on the Billboard Pop Singles chart in the United States. Notably, the record achieved this feat twice, once in 1962 and again in 1987 with the re-release of the song as part of the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack.
Berry Gordy wrote "Do You Love Me" with the intention that The Temptations, who had no Top 40 hits to their name yet, would record it. However, when Gordy wanted to locate the group and record the song, they were nowhere to be found (the Temptations hadn't been made aware of Gordy's intentions, and had departed Motown's Hitsville USA studio for a local Detroit gospel music showcase). After spending some time looking for the Temptations, Gordy ran into the Contours (Billy Gordon, Hubert Johnson, Billy Hoggs, Joe Billingslea, Sylvester Potts, and guitarist Hugh Davis) in the hallway. Wanting to record and release "Do You Love Me" as soon as possible, Gordy decided to let them record his "sure-fire hit" instead of the Temptations. The Contours, who were in danger of being dropped from the label after their first two singles ("Whole Lotta' Woman" and "The Stretch") failed to chart, were so elated at Gordy's offer that they immediately began hugging and thanking him.
"Do You Love Me", the fifth release on Gordy Records, became a notably successful dance record, built around lead singer Billy Gordon's screaming vocals. Selling over a million copies, "Do You Love Me" peaked at number-three on the Billboard Pop Singles chart, and was a number-one hit on the Billboard R&B Singles chart. This album featuring the single, Do You Love Me (Now That I Can Dance), was also the first LP released by Gordy Records.

ALL RECORDS ARE VISUALLY INSPECTED UNDER BRIGHT LIGHT. I TRY TO PLAY GRADE WHEN POSSIBLE OR AT LEAST IN ANY AREAS IDENTIFIED AS QUESTIONABLE FROM THE VISUAL INSPECTION.
MINT
Mint records are in most cases sealed in original shrink wrap. The only wear permissible is to the shrink wrap itself.
NEAR-MINT
NM records have glossy vinyl. There are no visible defects such as writing, tape, or stickers on the labels. The labels should not contain any spindle marks (from someone blindly trying to put the record on the turntable) The vinyl may have a few extremely fine hairline scratches or light scuffs that do not affect the sound quality. The vinyl will "appear" to have been un-played (It may very well have been played and well-cared for) The album cover will have NO writing, tape, creases, folds, seam splits ,stains, ring wear or Promo holes or cuts!
VG+ (EXCELLENT)
VG+ records have glossy vinyl. Slight signs of wear, including light scuffs, very light scratches or slight warping that does not seriously affect the listening experience is permissible. Very slight intermittent background noise mostly in the quiet passages is acceptable.
The album cover will have no more than three of the following imperfections: light writing such as initials or name in one area, minor creasing, seam splits not larger than 1". Neatly taped seams of 2" or less. It may also contain very slight ring wear or discoloration, a promo stamp, punch hole or cut-out as originally sold.
VG
VG Records have more obvious flaws such as more pronounced scratches & lack of gloss. Groove wear and scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail are common. When played there will be surface noise but it should not continuously overpower the music. There are NO skips permissible with no more than 1.5 grahams of tracking force. It is common to hear crackling and pops especially in the quiet passages. The labels may contain writing such as a persons name or initials or it may contain a piece of tape or sticker with or without writing. The cover may have some seam splits, writing, tape, stickers, ring wear and scuffs.
VG-
VG- All of the defects listed VG category would be more pronounced. The record will play through without skipping WITH NORMAL tracking force. A quick skip or two with no more that 2.5 grahams of tracking force are permissible. The record will have many obvious flaws but still enjoyable to listen to. Generally if the record is rare, it is still highly collectible.
G/G+
Good (G), Good Plus (G+) Good does not mean Bad! A record in Good or Good Plus condition can be put onto a turntable and will play through without skipping WITH NORMAL tracking force. A quick skip or two with no more that 2.5 grahams of tracking force are permissible. It will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear (on a styrene record, the groove will be starting to turn white). A cover or sleeve will have seam splits, especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.
