Description
HERE'S a shot of ragtime from 1911: "THE GABY GLIDE," played by the redoubtable ARTHUR PRYOR'S BAND. A lively one-step, this piece celebrates the piquant and alluring French import, GABY DESLYS, who was the toast of Broadway that year. They couldn't name actual toast after her, as that was already claimed by Nellie Melba, so instead Gaby was immortalized with her famous "Glide."
This is a custom pressing, from about 1916, a single-sided white-label item. It's from the days when a music lover could order ANYTHING from the Victor Vaults and have it individually struck for $2.00! This policy lasted on into the SIXTIES! Wish I could order up a bunch of nice two-dollar Victors today!
This original, 1911 single-sided white-label custom pressing of Victor 17063-A is in stunning E+ condition.
